'Disgraceful': Queensland government under fire for social housing crisis

The Queensland government has been criticised for its management of the social housing crisis after the release of an independent report.

Premier Annastacia Palaszczuk wrote in a Tweet that no Queensland government in 77 years has “invested this much into social housing”.

She continued to say she knew how important it was to have the “security of a roof over your head”.

However, property figures say the state government’s social housing failure has been disastrous and is putting pressure on an already tight rental market, which is experiencing record low vacancy rates across the state.

Housing is only tip of iceberg, law and order, and hospital beds.

After telling tenants they don't have to pay rent during covid, they now wonder why there's no rental properties.

I think we need to slow down people moving to Australia, until we have solved housing problems.

So now all the housing ministers are meeting in Melbourne on how to solve this crisis? The solution is very simple - build more homes or is there another magical cure like "talking" about it, have meetings, carry out polls, carry out an investigation? This sounds like we are using the submarine tactic - by 2040.
How did our population suddenly explode recently? Low interest rates forced people into property investment.

Palachook's statement is typical of what to expect from a professional liar, it is not a false statement, but it is entirely misleading, a deliberate misdirection. What matters is the investment from the government in proportion to the demand, not the absolute value, and that investment over time has to also take into account the lead time for producing the housing stock. If Labor had not locked down the state and allowed tradies from every other state to move to QLD even at the height of the pandemic response, we would have seen a lot more housing produced and the unit prices would have been cheaper too.

Why don’t they form a federal ministry of work department or increase the apprenticeships offered by Qbuild and then you can train and build more houses and give Queensland the boost that it needs for its trade shortage.
