When a tomcat is started, a new JVM starts for the web container and When a war file is deployed ... a new JVM starts for that war file ? or the war deployment becomes part of the web container jvm ? I see the process manager and I see only one java process.

What is catalina.bat?
1. I know it is launching TomCat.
2. I've written a few batch scripts before.
But... why catalina.bat? Why not TomCat.bat?
