There are three may way to secure your car, which are:

- Applying the handbrake firmly
- Leaving the car in gear
- Leaving your wheels steered

Interestingly my dad's car slipped away 'side on' on a hilly car park 20 years ago, with handbrake on, on a Citroen Xantia. Imagine not rained much slippy oily car-park after long dry period, heavy rain and flooded car-park and took my dad's car away, bet he'd not secured it very well, like a token couple clicks
