Things I only own ONE of

As a minimalist there are many things that I have intentionally decided to only own one of. This reduces the amount of overall inventory that I have to manage and reduces the number of decisions I make each day.

I'm confused too, but it's due to some of the nasty negativity in the comments. I took the video as examples of how you can look at your stuff and decide what to dispose of, not as a prescriptive set of rules on what to keep and what not. I'm sure there are extra towels etc for dog puke and cleaning cars and a lot of the cleaning stuff in previous videos were being tested out for our benefit on how they work. So you cut a sponge in three to be thrifty and chuck two just to be a "proper" minimalist? How daft. No. You save them for when the first one needs replacing. Dawn has always said " You do you" so have as many of everything that you want/need to work for you. Let's just take the advice in good faith and acknowledge that Dawn's principles and calm encouragement has helped so many to get their homes and lives back within their control in an easy and non stressful way.

It really is like an onion. Last winter, thanks to your videos, I shocked myself by scaling down enough in my kitchen to clear the counters, a task i thought impossible. I thought I was as declutteted as I could be in my kitchen. FF to this month, I had a 6' wall of cabinets I decided I wanted to get rid of. They were actually covering a nice big window. I did it! Cabinets are gone, and I was able to move my desk in their place!

I love the concept of looking at inventory you enjoy managing vs things you don’t enjoy managing. It makes minimalism more of a “find what works for you” instead of a “one size fits all” way of thinking.

Dawn, you’re glowing!!! Your hair, makeup, sparkle in your eyes, your elegant jewelry and gorgeous smile…you radiate His love and joy. Natural beauty in and out! Your health speaks of peace in your life. God bless you, Sister! 🤍🤍🤍

Hi Dawn: The power of one is so valuable. One minute, one hour, one day. One item! My grandparents had a farm outside of Duluth and as a child visiting them was so life changing. My grandmother would always say "one is enough" and was creative when she needed more. Fast forward to the present. Two years ago I began following you after I was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer. I kept my faith and recovered.I'm now in full remission. I attribute it to my faith, my environment as well as health habit changes. I hoped I would recover and began to follow you as I did a version of a swedish death cleaning just in case. What started as a cleanup actually became a lifestyle gift. What an impact a simplified lifestyle has made for health benefits and happiness! I live by the power of one now. Your message of awareness for your followers is golden. You are making a difference in the lives of many with your vision. Keep spreading the word.

My parents, as well as several of my friends' parents, lived through WWII in Europe. Hoarding is hard wired in our brains. Fighting this daily!

I have been decluttering for 3 and 1/2 years. I am so much happier. I look at stuff so differently. I am not attached to stuff anymore. I have what I use. Thank you Dawn.

“Extras in some categories, not every category” I love this. It’s realistic and flexible.

I think having a number and sticking to it is more important than only have one. I choose to have two towels per person in my house. It allows me some flexibility if I we all shower throughout the day, but I don’t get to the washing that night.

Oh man, you make me want to declutter SO MUCH MORE. I have way too much stuff. One lipstick?! I have like 4 in each of my purses (which I also have too many of). OK Dawn, I'm off to declutter!!!

Dawn, thank you so much for giving "permission" to own a lot of one category. So many other minimalist make you feel awful for owning more than one of anything. You make minimalism enjoyable ❤

I’d categorize myself as a semi minimalist. I don’t need an overflow of stuff but I do like a choice.

For Christmas my husband bought me a three-way coat. I’ve never seen one before, I love it. The outer layer could be used for when it’s raining because it has a hood and it’s lightweight. The inner coat is fleece like for fall weather and put them both together for winter weather. You can store it on one hanger.

People don’t need as much as they think they do to live comfortably and happy. Less is more😊 Love your videos!! ❤️

We live on a farm. I struggle with coats because I don’t want to wear the same coat that I wore outside or around the campfire. Also, I have 8 kids so we all have barn coats/ clothes/shoes and also good coats/clothes/shoes. I have tried to be minimal in these areas but it’s more of a hassle! Too many times I sit down at church and smell a lingering campfire smell and realize it’s my child’s coat! I also tried to have one comb/ brush but lose my sensibilities when I have to search the whole house for it, only to discover it’s in my daughters room because she was braiding her sisters hair. Someday I will have a minimal house when all my kids move out, and while it’s a dream now, I know I’ll miss it when the time is here.

If only….
If Dawn saw all the stuff I have, she’d faint. I’m still at minimizing my clothes. I have already filled four large ( decorative) boxes with costume jewelry I no longer wear. I have four large jewelry boxes, about 30 necklaces not in jewelry boxes, 35 designer handbags ( I’ve given most of the ones I had away) the list goes on…My makeup alone fills up three drawers. This is why I subscribe to Dawn’s channel. I really am trying!!

Dawn's a prepper! I've been watchig for years and have decluttered half my house, still a ways to go. But I got rid of a beloved antique lawyer's bookcase and replaced it with a metal shelving unit to store food. I try to cook from scratch most of what we eat and having a dedicated "pantry" in the "guest bedroom" has been a huge blessing! I laughed when she said we don't love pans or spatulas so can narrow those down. I loved RAGS! I had a huge collection, old towels from my family, husband's family. I couldn't believe that I was attached to them. But I let a lot go, and now have a tidy rubbermaid in in the garage where I have a clean, contained collection of rags - that get a lot of use! It's funny what we cherish sometimes.

I have been following Clutterbug’s 30 day, 5minutes/5things to declutter program and am soooo happy to have someone guiding the process. .
THIS IDEA OF OWNING ONE of anything especially clothing is a whole NEW IDEA of living! My husband and I are first generation post war babies . We grew up with no decluttering EVER.. What a long struggle for us never having had examples and especially raising 8 children. I was overwhelmed with clutter!
We were first generation post war babies…NEVER get rid of anything!
My 90 year old mom owned 17 pairs of capris when she had to move into our small home… that was hard for her.
Our 8 children are better declutters as they raise their children .Yay!

We went overseas for a month this summer and stayed in condo. We brought just one of many things (one bathing suit, one church shoes/ dress shoes, etc). It is amazing because we always knew where that ONE item was. And if it was lost, it was quick to find. Valuable lessons were learned!

I’ve been a fan of the Minimal Mom for a few years and it’s helped my family of 5 (3 young kids and my husband) live well in a 2 bed, 1 bath, 1000 sq foot home. We recently moved across the country and I would consistently watch your videos to inspire me to declutter and simplify even more in the packing process which helped the move to go very smoothly. Thank you Dawn!

I will never understand why people take the time to leave nasty comments. Some people multiple times. They are not constructive. And to make false statements like "you're lying". Why? With millions of videos to watch on You Tube - just move on. Why try to hurt someone? I wish everyone would simply be kind or be quiet. Thank you Dawn the Minimal Mom for this video. I found it a quite helpful tip to only focus on your favorites. And things that bring value to your life. Good job!
