I also heard something about posture detecting chairs, pulse detecting wrist somethings, and cameras to detect how you act when specific subjects are talked about.

I graduated Highschool with an IB diploma (International baccalaureate) a standardized program all over the world, so I have some perspective here.

It was far harder than the high school all my friends went to. In truth, it was difficult, structured, left me less time to socialize and do what I really wanted.

Yet, the challenge was amazing, it taught me how to actually apply myself. It's currently helping me thrive in post-secondary education and life in general.

AMERICANS, give it a shot....

What standards? I came here to learn. He didn't state one standard.

It's easy to follow along with your head down and accept what is offered to you; it takes some guts to stand up and say "No".

Because we attract students from around the world for the education we provide - which is top notch. So the colleges up their prices for the privilege of going to school here.

We spend SO much on the military because we have a very large country to protect AND we provide military protection for lots of other countries formed through the Marshall Plan after WWII.

Functional magnetic resonance imaging (FMRI). Basically what it does is scan the brain neuronal activity by using the iron in our blood and magnets, I know it sounds crazy but it's a real thing. Well anyway it can detect what subjects stimulate a person's brain by measuring changes in blood flow, because when an area of the brain is in use, blood flow to that region also increases. This is just one of the things that they are using for "the standards".

As a recent high school grad and soon-to-be college grad..I can say we need change in schools and higher standards will move toward that.

Thank you for your willingness to take a stand in the land of the blind and home of the formerly free.

Actually, several states and representatives voted for this to happen and frankly, it does actually help a lot students because they can be college accepted, but not college ready. They might flush funds, but it's still worth it when those students earn a lot more money because of their college graduation. This is in no way invading privacy, it just helps people in the country. If you don't love it, leave it.

As a student, I look at Common Core as a more effective way. However, many people are unfamiliar with the sudden change of school expectations, especially in middle school.

If you're a teacher, you might also try looking at LearnZillion to see mini video lessons based on Common Core standards. It's kind of like Khan Academy but the lessons are designed by teachers and are based directly on common core standards. Pretty cool site and definitely a helpful tool to figure out what the CCSS is all about!

Consistent. The people who promote Common Core all agree that it's consistent. Education will be the same standards for every child across the whole of the country. And that's good right? We like stability, we love calm uniform unity. We don't care if our Big Macs are dry and our fries greasy as long as they taste no worse than the last one we had. We don't mind the inevitable stomach ache, because it was such a good IDEA. And so we'll eat greasy fast food again and again, getting a little sicker each time, because it sounds like such a good idea. But what do you know- one day we just may die of it. And chances are there will be no one left to morn us because it was our choice. Our consistent choice.

Consistency and conformity is just what truly great educators like Sir Ken Robinson has been trying to warn us away from. Consistent standards don't work in practice because we are humans, a race which by nature is never uniform, nor does it thrive in a rigid atmosphere. We are organic forms and therefore need an education form just as organic as we are. The system should conform to the people, not the people to the system.
