This week, Claire Ridgway, author of "On This Day in Tudor History", is dividing the week into two parts, and this first part covers Tudor events that took place on 11th, 12th and 13th January.

--Contents of this video--
00:00 - Introduction
00:33 - 11th January 1584
05:38 - 12th January 1573
12:14 - 13th January 1593

11th January 1584 - On this day in the reign of Queen Elizabeth I, the execution of printer William Carter took place at Tyburn. Carter was hanged, drawn and quartered for treason for printing a book which allegedly contained a passage inciting Queen Elizabeth I's assassination.

12th January 1573 - On this day in Elizabeth I's reign, William Howard, 1st Baron Howard of Effingham, diplomat, soldier and naval commander, died at Hampton Court. He had served under Henry VIII, Edward VI, Mary I and Elizabeth I. He managed to survive the fall of his good friend, John Dudley, in 1553, by choosing to be loyal to Mary I rather than Queen Jane, and managed to serve both Mary I and Elizabeth I loyally.
Note: Claire meant "great-half-niece" when she was talking about Elizabeth I and Effingham.

13th January 1593 - On this day in Elizabeth I's reign, Sir Henry Neville died. Neville was the son of a condemned traitor and a godson of King Henry VIII.

I will never tire of your Tudor history lessons. I do miss the daily videos, but, whatever you and Tim decide is A-OK with me. You and Tim are the greatest ❤

🇦🇺🦘 Another great video Claire. A good idea to experiment with format, making a Part 1 and a Part 2 for "This Week in Tudor History". Todays Part 1 - excellent 👍

Will leave the decision up to you, as to which format you end up choosing to continue with. After all, it is you who has to do all the work to get these wonderful videos to us, which we very much appreciate. Whatever you end up deciding, I'll be very happy. 😀

Thank you Claire 👑💗👍 Take care 🌐💕👋

I don’t know why but I fell in love with Baron Howard from his picture. He looks like he had a good sense of humor. Thank you for telling me more about him. He seems like a decent guy. I didn’t realize he almost died in Catherine Howard’s fall.

Have always enjoyed your videos, but I especially like this format. Never ceases to amaze me how much these people accomplished in their relatively short lifetimes. Glad William Howard managed to keep his head.
Loved seeing Maj start off the show!

Thank you for the laugh you gave me, as the cat sauntered across the table and you gave it such a look!!! That was too funny....Poor Carter, drawn and quartered. Horrible. And that Carter did not succumb to the Rack, well, that is beyond impressive. I will now have to investigate him further....I like this style of weekly videos...I will wait until tomorrow to watch the next day.

I would have said anything on the rack to make them stop! Amazing he didn’t break! Being hung drawn and quartered is such an awful way to go!!

I’m loving this new video format. Can’t wait for Part 2!! I’ll be keeping an eye on my notifications!

William Howard: served several monarch of varying faiths, worked hard, avoided conspiracies and kept his head literally. What an exemplary example of appropriate court service!

The cat sauntering by, as soon as you announced the first topic, reminded me of those ladies that carry the number at the beginning of each round in a boxing match...I was expecting the bell!

I have to say, I do miss your daily videos, but I understand needing the time to do other things. Either way, well done!

I like your longer weekly programs very much. I'm less likely to miss one of the days if you do the program this way. thank you so much for your work. I have learned so much about Tudor history and culture from your presentations.

Thanks Claire. As you wish. I love you still bring us Tudor history. 💜 Snow? With all your arid vegetation?

Thanks, Claire and Tim for trying out this 2-part format. I know it is extra work for you, but I do like this format. The two Williams featured today were both interesting Tudor men, one of them being more fortunate than the other. Nice to have Maj supervising the new format :)

You look very nice in purple! Thank you for the interesting talk. I hope that you and your family and friends and any livestock you might have wandering around the house and yard stay healthy too.
