WHAT IS DOWN FILL POWER? COMPARING 500 VS 700+

In this video, we compare what different down qualities look like when outside of a sleeping bag or jacket. We answer the questions of why it is important to buy a higher fill power sleeping bag.

Fill power is a way of rating the quality of down in a sleeping bag or other down product. The higher the fill power the higher the quality of the down. This typically refers to the percentage of down clusters vs. feathers.

We also give visual examples of a 500 fill power down vs a 700 plus fill power down. This allows you to really understand how much higher quality down makes a difference.

the higher quality means a more puffy expanding down. thats why a jacket with 700 fill power is lighter than a jacket with 500 fill power because you need less of it while both are just as warm.

But when two bags are rated at the same temperature rating (15 degrees) using different down (650 and 850 fill) aside from the 2 oz difference in weight what differences in performance will there be?

I’m comparing Nemo Disco and Nemo Riff for reference.

Halfway through the video and had to point this out. The 500 fp was 50 down and 50 didnt claim how much feather was in the 700 fp I highly doubt it was 50 down and 50 feather....
