I thought it was John Tyler who was the first president to face an impeachment attempt but the funny thing about this is that it was a former president who led a committee to try to impeach John Tyler and that former president was John Quincy Adams.

I believe congress when they were considering the constitution envisioned the threat of impeachment and removal of presidents to be a constant
all presidents would have to take into account throughout their administration's, in order to avoid a tyrant.
