What Rural Belarusian Celebrations Look Like | The Independence Day

On the Independence Day I decided to film a bit of what we usually do when we have celebrations as this. People gather at the town square to watch a festival. The town square welcomes people from all the villages in the district of Korma.
Most probably, I wouldn't go if not for my godmother whose job is to participate in different festivities. To watch her be part of any celebration is a joy for me since I know how much effort and soul she puts into her work and trying her best to make others interested in what she offers. She has already created so many beautiful things. In this video I will show an exhibition she made for the Independence Day.

Beautiful. The costumes and that dance with the sickles allmost looked like something from the Basque country. I remember some of the old devices you've showed from my early childhood. When I see you in Belarus I always think of the lost home country, as it was before the terrible wars, when Russia still was our best friend.

"Old is gold...!" Do you believe that sweetheart...? Heirloom, the heritage, the history... The story behind a certain object, the wonderful and sweet memories of it, is that what make it special... ♥️🌹🌹🌹💋 PE☮️CE

Thank you Katsiaryna, for taking us with you to the exhibition, it was fun and interesting. Do you have antique stores in Belarus? They are quite common here in the USA and I have spent many hours wondering through them with my children just to discover what was used years ago. Folks were certainly creative. You mentioned comfort zone. Thank you for pushing yourself beyond yours to share this video with us. You are so considerate of others than yourself. Looking forward to seeing you in your element again soon. With love, Dave

Thank you for reminding me of my family’s past. I am from Utah in the USA. My family immigrated from Denmark in the 1800s. They lived in a very small town. There were only dirt roads. My grandmother had no indoor plumbing. Only well water and an outhouse. They had a festival every year called lamb days. They roasted a lamb and everyone ate a lamb sandwich. Farming and sheep were their livelihood. They used to herd the sheep through town in the morning. I would wake up to the sound of baaing sheep and bells. It was cold because she heated her house with a coal stove. The were less than 200 residents in the area. Lot’s of memories. Thank you. Your are really beautiful.

That was fascinating, I enjoyed the scythe and sickle exhibition showing the operation. That for us, would take people back to the nineteen thirties. The exhibition of teacups and crockery reminds me to say that you should be aware of the collection value of such pieces which might astonish you. So don't be shy and look at who made them, where and their value. I would not like folk to underestimate the value of what they hold. Rare old ceramics are very sought after! They should take time to research them as there were a number of great manufacturers in the past. I remember the radiograms and record players. Mostly the needles wore out and eventually went out of production. My sister's are very interested in the tapestry, and stitching so it must have been a pre entertainment pass-time and was an important household skill. To celebrate the bicentenary of the town she lived all the ladies produced a 150mm square depicting an activity, local plant, industry and location, then made into a tapestry to brand the village. The tapestry was then reproduced on cups, tea-trays, plates etc. They were then sold to tourists as momento rather than mass produced 'tatt' from outside. (Just an idea for your godmother). Best of luck and if you can have a look on line for " the antiques roadshow" or "bargain hunt" to see what you may have been looking at.

Екатерина, история - основа нашей цивилизации, без истории нет будущего. Кто уничтожает историю, тот уничтожает свое будущее, страны без истории не существует, я люблю историю. 🥰

The red roses exhibited a very bright reflection of a dedicated and talented gardener. Hard to decide which one is more beautiful.
