Discovering Authentic Everest | Pikey Peak Solo Trekking, Nepal Himalayas

Solo trekking through the valleys of the Nepal Himalayas, and to the top of Pikey Peak, just below Everest. Join me for part one of my Three Passes trek as I experience authentic Nepalese village life, summit the lesser-known Pikey Peak, and go hiking with dogs, goats, yaks, and donkeys through these breathtaking valleys. Trek was in April/May 2023.

While lengthening my Three Passes Trek in the upper Himalayas by one week, I was able to trek through all of these spectacular valleys and authentic villages. Instead of flying to Lukla and skipping these parts, I walked in from Dhap, a village much lower in the valley. While trekking through these villages and valleys over the course of a week, I had the privilege of experiencing true village life all to myself. Plus, my first breathtaking view of Mount Everest was from atop Pikey Peak, where I was completely alone.

Your videos of the Himalaya are equally magnificent and beautiful. A true labour of love. I travelled in the Himalaya extensively in the late 80’s/ early 90’s, climbing and trekking in the before returning over the last couple of years after a 30 year hiatus. It is wonderful to see you capture the real soul of the people of Himalaya, and your videos give a real essence of what it used to be like. In 1990 I trekked into the Khumbu from Jiri to climb on Cholatse, and this particular vlog really invoked memories of a time lost in the past. Last year, I revisited the Khumbu with my wife and eldest daughter, 3 passes trek, and although a lot has changed, it is still magical. Thank you for all you do on these vlogs, they are truly remarkable. Greetings from Scotland ……

There are those who look and there are those who SEE. You, Nicholas, are even able to record this "VISION" of the insignificant but all the more beautiful moments of human existence. These are unforgettable, therefore eternal images. DELIGHT!

Yet another amazing film! I loved the Pikey Peak Summit part, wonderful shots. Hiking videos are great not only to watch beautiful mountains but also to explore people's lives along the way, you did a great job at that. I hope the monastery will find money to rebuild. Nepal is amazing, can't wait for Part 2 (there will be some serious trekking from what I've seen on the route map). It's actually wiser to divide such a film into few parts for channel growth, 1hr is still long enough. I also appreciate how you care and respond to every comment. Cheers from Poland, can't wait to one day travel there too...

Another awesome videos which most other travel videos fail to show. Most of us are so used to seeing same Lukla - Everest Basecamp trek like a mantra On Mani Padme Hung inscribed on the prayer wheels and rocks.

The travelogue, a portmanteau of travel and monologue, is sublime. Transcendent. Ineffably indelible.
