In the comics, Nick Fury has a small army of LMDs (Life Model Decoys, basically androids designed to pretend to be him) and makes use of them constantly, so you never really know if you're talking to (or shooting at) the real Fury. They already used the concept of LMDs in Agents of Shield, but I think Skrull doubles works just as well.

I like that his only piece of evidence to prove his point is the shape of toast. Like it’s more plausible that Nick Fury has secretly been an alien this entire time instead of just deciding to change the way he eats toast after 20 years.
