In this video, Instructor Steve is back and he's going to show you how to teach your dog to ignore other dogs when they're walking on leash. We published a video a couple of weeks ago talking about the foundation for this exercise. If you haven't seen that video yet, click the link below

Will this type of correction teach the dog that other dogs are bad?

I ask because I had a dog trainer scold me about using this cue with my puppy when she was barking and wanting to play with a dog on a leash while she was on a leash.

Massive respect for this video, because he sets realistic expectations by explaining that this is where he's at AFTER doing this exercise a number of times with this dog, and he doesnt edit out when the dog doesn't listen and he has to reset the difficulty for the dog by moving further away.

What a good boy!!! Hopefully this works with Corvo. I've been avoiding the park because he jumps, pulls, howls, and whines when he sees other dogs and it scares them and their people even though I know he just wants to play. Thanks for the video!!!

My dog lunged at cars, squirrels, other dogs, cats, people etc etc. This video is so helpful and with practice, this method is working. My dog will ignore cars now which is huge. The key is the distance judgements....go back if poor response or no response and then move back and try again. I had to use only 3-5 feet at a time, but again, this really works. Give it a try! Thank you

omgosh!! FINALLY!! I have watched so many videos looking for someone who is working with a dog that has NOT already been fully trained for whatever the vid was about. It was so frustrating and i felt like the biggest failure because my puppy wouldnt just get it immediately like the dog in the video.Thank You!!

Great job. It's so fun to watch your dog get excited when they do the right thing.

Grateful for these videos. Just moved into a dog walker neighborhood and it’s super stressful. My dog goes crazy when he sees other dogs, barking and jumping smh

I hope this works. My girl is extremely energetic and high drive. I have tried so many things to get her to stop freaking out when she sees other dogs. She was a rescue and was not properly socialized. She try’s to jump out of her harness or gentle lead.
She also barks and whines so loud

I had taught "leave it" at home when I first got my 11 month rescue puppy as he is very anxious around other dogs on walks. I have been trying now to do it on walks and it is working. Thank you so much. 😀

Oh my GOD 😯😯😯😯. This is what I've been searching for. My dog is very obedient but his not friendly with other dogs. Now I'm going to try this with chicken and toy to play with him. Yes. Thank you so much

Very helpful, can't wait to try it. I know it won't be quick as my G.S. gets very excited when she sees other dogs, but these tips will help a lot.

Wow I can't wait to try this. I have two dogs, and I use to be able to walk both of them together but it's getting more and more crazy.

This is so helpful. I could not figure out how to control how far the other dogs were—outside the dog park is an excellent idea.

I took my mom's pit bull, Archie, to training class for the first time last weekend and he was so excited about everything that he barked - a lot (he doesn't get out much). He wasn't being aggressive toward any of the other dogs, or people, he was just super-excited to be there. I know I need to discourage this, but don't want to tell him "no" when he's just doing it to express happiness (at least I think it's just happiness) so I'd just stand in front of him and put pressure on the lead - but trainers still had to come over with the squirt gun to get him to stop. We're invited for a private session with the trainers this Wednesday and will walk around their facility to meet some of their day-camp dogs, etc. I think he just needs to have more experiences outside the home and will calm down eventually. Am I on the right track? Love you guys!

I love using the word successful describing the dog's behavior.

Sometimes I wanna put my dog on these shows to see what an actual unbehaved dog does and how to fix

Thank you! Very informative video. Direct and to the point on training and what to do in situations. I find McCann to be the best in dog training videos on YouTube.

These videos are so helpful to me! My 18 week old Golden Retriever has been having a time with this and I know now I'm making it way too hard for him too soon. I'll start moving farther away or going the other way. I've been expecting him to be able to do this as dogs walk by on the other side of the street in the neighborhood. I also haven't been telling him to leave it, although he does that with items -- and does drop it well too. I've been telling him to sit and stay. Thanks for the video!
