Evoke LA: Exclusively at La Fonda

Evoke LA – a unique collaboration between ALOUD and KPCC/LAist. Inspired by collections in the Los Angeles Public Library archives, we’ll dive into the heart and soul of the city to illuminate its rich history through a contemporary lens.

For this episode, a 1980s menu from legendary L.A. restaurant La Fonda was given to Mariachi Arcoiris de Los Angeles, L.A.’s path-breaking queer and transgender mariachi group, to inspire a new dinner theatre experience. Joining the conversation are acclaimed historian Natalia Molina (she/her), who has just finished a book on her family’s former Echo Park restaurant, the Nayarit. Along with host Erick Galindo (he/him) and series curator Josh Kun (he/him), the group gets into the intersection of food and entertainment and what restaurants tell us about histories of community-making in Los Angeles.
