You cannot prove this (but it's true) #shorts

Here's a statement that is indisputably true, but unprovable. Wrap your head around this and you'll be ready when we discuss Godel and mathematical incompleteness.
This is different from the Epiminides Paradox ("This statement is false") which has no truth value-- is neither true nor false. More on this in a future video.

This is like a paradox!!! I've got a paradox too

The below statement is true.
The above statement is false.

Thanks for that ! I feel like math paradoxes are underappreciated on YouTube. I should post some of them on my channel…

Let A = I cannot prove this statement.

If not A is true then "I can prove this statement" is true and so "I cannot prove this statement"=A is false
if not A is false then I can prove this statement is false AND so "I cannot prove this statement" A is true which

so
not A true means A false
not A false means A true

Therefore the statement is true.
