Dr. Nima introduces us to Heather, who's always wanted corrective ear surgery ever since she was a young girl. Watch Dr. Nima explain the procedure and see Heather's amazing results!

Today we have Heather who has been thinking about otoplasty surgery. In otoplasty surgery, we push the ears back against the head when they stick out too much. So we invited her here to get her story and see why she wanted to get it done, and what she hopes to accomplish after surgery. Tell us a little of why you are thinking about getting otoplasty surgery.

I have been wanting to get otoplasty since I was a kid. I was always insecure about my ears, sticking out. I never wanted to wear my hair in a pony tail or play water sports where my hair was wet and I couldn't style it. I'm just looking forward to finally getting it done and just in time for summer. I'll throw my hair in a pony tail and walk around with confidence.

What made you decide to choose us as your surgeons?

I have been coming to you for Botox and Juvederm originally, and I loved the result every single time. Then when I got consulted about the otoplasty, Dr. Shemirani had actually done more surgeries over the past year than the other surgeons in the Beverly Hills area, so I really trust that he is going to do a great job and I couldn't be more excited.

We'll touch base afterwards.

After measuring the protrusion of Heather's ears, we draw lines for removal of skin. Then we measure how far we want to set Heather's ears back after surgery. The ideal measurement is between 10 to 15 mm. Before we being surgery, administer local anesthetic around the ear, which helps minimize discomfort after surgery. The skin is then removed along with muscle and soft tissue to make room to set back the ear. We then set back the major portion of the ear against the back of the head. We do this through several permanent stitches, which go through the cartilage but not through the skin. The fourth step involves recreating the ante helix. It is the ridge of cartilage that goes inside the outer rim of the ear. We bend the cartilage and secure it with more permanent stitches. Finally, we sew the skin back together and repeat the process for the other side.

So we're back with Heather on postop day seven. Tell everybody how your week was.

I spent the whole week recovery after the surgery. The pain actually was not as bad as I had thought it was going to be, so I just relaxed and took it easy and tried not to exert myself. Each day got easier, so I'm really excited. It took me a minute to put my hair in a pony tail because I usually don't do that. So I’m excited to see the results of my hair up, and, yeah, I'm looking forward to it.

Wow! It's exactly what I wanted.

So they are pinned back, and still look natural and you can wear your hair up for the summertime.

Perfect. My face is so petite, they used to take over everything. I love that.
