(Yes, I get paid when you buy things from there if you use this link - but I only use their samples because I think they're good.)

This Reason 5 Tutorial is geared towards people exploring the dirtier and more powerful style of Dubstep, along the lines of Nero, Excision and Skrillex.

If you use fruity loops or garage band or logic, protools, ableton or any other DAW I'm sure you'll find something in here you can learn from, since I try to explain *why* I do things rather than just *what* I do! :)

Good tutorial, these vids are always great! Without meaning to be rude that sound could do with a lot more work imho - has the classic 'reasony' sound to it that makes a reason produced track instantly recognisable (and not in a good way...). I'd say Loki's BASS REESE tutorial is far moreon the money for this kind of sound. Nice tute tho still you go through everything very clearly, thumbs up

I'm so happy you've made this
I was trying to make wee-waa-waa-waooom from formant filters and it just wasn't going my way

@Dextrous I love the direction it's taking - there's loads of energy as you said, it's fun and in some cases it's more danceable. That said, I also enjoy the older head-noddy stuff. It's not going anywhere - there will be producers making both kinds (and I'm sure many other offshoots will come along) for a long time yet.

Live Dubstep is an awesome idea - didn't Modestep do that?

10 minutes of grinding pain to do all the routing correct, then save it as a combinator preset and thank the day this guy was born

Guys, if any of you are beginners in production I do not recommend using Reason. These tutorials do help a lot with learning how to structure and layer a dubstep song, but you're better off using something like FL Studio or Ableton since with correct VSTi's, it'll save you the time in creating these sounds from scratch like this guy's doing. You'll still need to do EQing and shit, but it doesn't involve nearly as much routing to like 80 different mixers. No offense to this man at all though.

To those of you in question, when he "copied the envelope" and magically got the wub sound to his bass, what he did was he copied the "envelope" or "filter" that we used in day 1 to create the effect of going from a lower, "compressed" sound to full sound. Basically copy that, and draw in the lines, making the spikes radical (i.e. up then straight down then back up) to make the wub effect, instead of on day 1 where we started half way then went up over a series of notes.

"reason doesn't have VSTs, but if you spend time figuring it out, you can pretty much make something similar to 90% of the VSTs that exist with the tools we have"

Exactly.
