The Taj Mahal Palace Hotel in Mumbai is India''s oldest and most famous hotel. In a city that is home to the country's wealthiest man, but where half the population still live in poverty, the Taj is where the super-rich come to be treated like the Maharajahs of India''s past. The filmmakers spent six months behind the scenes following the hotel's 1500 strong staff as they responded to every whim and demand with the mantra 'Guest is God'.

With rooms costing up to £9000 a night, this film follows General Manager Gaurav and Executive Housekeeper Indrani as they spend days making checks upon checks for VIP visits to the luxurious Tata Suite. We meet long-term resident Maria who spends six months of the year living in the hotel, we join oil trader Captain Bhasin as he hosts a cocktail party in his suite served by his English-style butler Melville; and Mr Chaskar, who has been in charge of the hotel''s mini-bar service for 42 years.

This film was first broadcast: 27 Aug 2014

Tears rolled from my eyes hearing harshad cleaning the bath tub for the others but never get a chance to use even given the chance he wouldn't that shows how humble he is towards his works. Salute to him

Please read the stories about how brave this staff was during the terrorist attack on the Taj in 2008. They risked their lives to save hundreds… including Chef Oberoi. They aren’t just extraordinary employees, they’re extraordinary HEROES.

Mr. Chaskar, what an absolutely delightful guy. Not sure if he is retired as of date. Would love to go and pay him a visit. He is one celebrity in his own right. Love him!

very less people are thankful to the place from where they earn their livelihood but the lady from an underprivileged, who are severely neglected in and around taj has got that common sense to thank that place for giving livelihood, Simply great.

I love this hotel. I never stayed as visited Mumbai as a backpacker but the cool comfort of the marble bathrooms, the care and concern we got because we were two young girls travelling and the kindness of the staff was amazing

i like the last line of the general manager, I'm an English speaking Secular minded Indian and know that many of our traditions are defunct but I still celebrate all of them and regularly go to temples, mosques and churches, It's just something I grew up with and can't get rid of so to speak.
