If you don't grasp these ideas, it's hard to stick with the stock market through its ups and downs, like recessions, corrections, bulls, and bear markets.
So, What are Index Funds?
When we talk about the stock market going up or down, we usually refer to Indices like Sensex or Nifty in the Indian stock market. These indices include a small number of companies, like 30 for Sensex and 50 for Nifty. Despite being a select few, they offer valuable information to investors, traders, and economists.
These companies are typically the most established and significant in their country or sectors. Investing in an index fund means buying shares of all these companies based on their allocation in the index, using methods like free-floating market capitalization. The index automatically updates every six months, keeping only successful companies. This is a winning strategy for long-term investments - let your winners grow and cut your losses early.
Pro investors like Warren Buffett and Charlie Munger suggest investing in index funds through SIPs (Systematic Investment Plans) for a disciplined approach.
But remember, past performance doesn't guarantee future returns. This is not a recommendation; do your research before investing.
