Why Was The Death Star Created? Not Just For Fear - Star Wars #Shorts

Most people believe Emperor Palpatine built the Death Star to solidify his power in the galaxy… and they would be right. But The New Jedi Order books, now in Legends, gave us an additional reason.

This series introduced us to the Yuuzhan Vong, a fanatical warrior race that was forced to leave their own galaxy. Looking for a new place to call home, they invaded the Star Wars galaxy 25 years after the Battle of Yavin. Palpatine had become aware of them before the Clone Wars, and began putting defenses in place long before they arrived, including his military dictatorship and the Death Star. He always had plans to dominate the galaxy, this just gave him a reason for it.

The Yuuzhan Vong are not widely loved by fans, but the introduction of the Grysk in the new Thrawn trilogies could become a likely “outsider invader” in future Star Wars stories.

There was a throwaway mention to the Vong in KOTOR. Canderous Ordo mentions in one of his monologues that his flight encountered a strange ship masquerading as an asteroid.
The formidable Mando weapons didn’t even scratch it and it took off astonishingly fast.

I loved the yuzhan vong, total badass void of the force all with a mission, extermination of all things. They were a "proper" threat and so unhuman they really were good to read characters. I loved those books.

Was a fantastic series with an ensemble cast of all our characters and favorite authors! Corran Horn and Kyle Kattarn and so so many others had parts!

Love the Vong totally outside the box instead of the same old Fallen jedi and former imperials

I loved legends. I loved the new jedi order. The vong were sick. There tech was awesome. And they were a natural Arch enemy for the jedi.

In a way the Vong was a good solution to unite a fragmented galaxy against a common threat. . The Empire was vying for power after the death of Sidious, the Rebels were still extremely unorganized and the Vong came in at just the right time in my opinion. Not just the empire and rebellion, the sith and Jedi put their differences aside because the Vong didn't recognize the force at all in the sense that lightning and push had limited to no effect and the Vong were completely uncompromising and embraced pain as pleasure, the more scars and alterations to their body the more prestige they had.
