Jeff over @ mygolfmk7 showed that open intakes flow better resulting in less pressure drop than closed intakes. When the car is at speed—ie. fresh air moving through the grill/engine bay—the benefits of closed airbox over open are negated when it comes to IATs. At rest, sure temps will climb for open intakes, but as soon as you start moving—ie. when it counts—open intakes are better. Of course, better heat management such as turbo blanket and intercooler upgrade will help too.

Thanks, for that! I’ve actually been wondering about the difference. The open box looks cooler, the closed box runs cooler.
