Often times people encounter a threshold with their horse & simply apply more pressure to encourage them to cross it. This usually ends badly & can be dangerous. When a horse shows us they are unconfident it's up to us to recognize & respond appropriately. Backing off & re-approaching is often a better strategy for the horse's confidence & the rider's safety.

Good advice. He's saying always be one step ahead by recognizing your horses language. Acknowledge the first sign of your horse telling you he/she is worried or scared and respond to it before the situation escalates 👍

It’s like a little kid being stressed out about something and his parents put more pressure on him. The kid has a meltdown and then the parents wonder why he’s acting that way.

Was leading my mare and i tripped, she froze then bolted. There was no thresh hold in that moment. After i caughter a mile away, had my husband hold her rope and i fell, had obnoxiously loud seizures, flopped around smacking her legs and chest. I did this until she stopped freaking and sniffed my face, boom, im healed😂

Warwick Schiller talks about this in a couple of videos about helping your horse deal with anxiety. Calls it "holding on to rabbits."
He has a long video about it, but mentions his rabbit theory in others. Here is a shorter explanation of the theory -same as the point Ryan is trying to make here:
