Art is where science meets imagination. You can't have just one or the other.

For sure. I can’t even begin to imagine the difference in the end product had you recorded and mixed my music VS what I’ve created at my house.

You become a better musician the more you know about the technical stuff

Me and my fam love you man thanks for everything you do, I’m a composer and I’m regularly conflicted between both points but I do agree with your point of course but learning all these techniques the past 4 years made me better for sure but highly insecure about making choices when it comes to technique😂 anyway I’ll keep pushing cheers 🍻

I make deep minimal Drum and Bass which is a genre that sounds simple, but pretty complex in terms of technicality.

While I do believe that music is about self-expression, creative expression and feeling, I believe that being "less technical" lowers the barrier of entry too much, meaning that people like myself who have Spent decades perfecting their craft have done so in vein (at least to an extent). It's the same in regards to simplifying plugins.

i think it's more of an age thing. when i was younger all that mattered was emotional expression. it was even ok if the mix hurt my ears.
but with a higher age there also comes an increased desire to make up for the lack of emotional depth with a deeper technical understanding.
that's how we can still make music exciting for us

Music IS technical. Instruments require technique, music requires technique. Listening to something and choosing what you want to change requires technique. What this person is complaining about is ‘I want to make the sounds I want without having to use this thing which looks like I’d have to learn something in order to get a good result from it’ which is fine - but everything is technical. Learning to record on a computer, using an EQ, everything. Just depends on what you’re willing to learn and if you think it looks appealing or worthwhile.

Technical should be like walking allowing music to be the journey (and destination)

The fact of the matter is that all music is this technical. Nobody gets to think it's simple if they've ever tried to buy a guitar, and then tried to string it. So damned many variations on strings, and even more variations on guitars.

It's only simple for the person consuming the music, especially if they're incurious.

Exploration, discovery, and happy accidents are a part of music creation, and technology gives independence and opportunity at the grass roots. It's when technical manipulation is depended upon so much the artist doesn't produce out of their creativity and doesn't realise how limiting it is for them. Listen to the current chart music.

Computers and AI should do the tech stuff and let us do the creative stuff.

Anyone stating musing shouldn't be technical didn't even think about the complexity and thought behind the current tuning system we most frequently use, and how even nowadays it's a painful compromise to keep most instruments in tune within a context.

Music is music. Audio Engineering is audio engineering. Both are nuanced works of art that are similar but not the same.

I would like to hear the music you have made.

There is nothing that music "shouldn't be". Great music can be technical wizardry or CAVEMAN GLURG HIT STRING HARD. Putting a damper on that in either direction is only limiting.

This sounds like a cry for help. Literally everything is technical in the background. I predict that most jobs that is more technical than they are creative will be gone within a couple of decades. The more oir technology knows and learns about what we do and need, the higher the bar for being meaningfully creative will become.

Without knowing any technical stuff, your song where you put all of your creativity and emotion to will sound distorted, muddy or thin in speakers 😂😂😂

It's like your never going to be able to paint a beautiful oil painting without 1000's of hours learning the correct techniques of how to paint well.

Even learning an instrument fluently is pretty dam technical.

Sound is so technical that even wise yogi’s study it and don’t know everything about it. It’s Way beyond our understanding. You would be closer to correct by saying you know nothing about it. Everything in the universe is made out of vibrations and every vibration has a frequency. Let that sink in.
