A few fun facts: The early ballads literally say "Robyn Hod stode in Barnesdale", which is a surprise to many because originally Robin didn't even live in Sherwood, which is usually associated with this outlaw.Nor did Robin distribute his spoils to the poor, but robbed all but women for fear of the deadly sin and for the sake of the Virgin Mary who is referred to in the ballads as "Our Lady." Pallads such as The Monk and The Potter also do not place Robin Hood in the modern way in the era of King Richard and Prince John, but in A Little Gest the king is named "Edward our comely king". How much the Robin Hood myth has lived and changed since its earliest stages is shocking.
