The new hybrid Renault Clio E-Tech Esprit Alpine is a sheep in wolf's clothing but it makes total sense. Great sporty looks, quality interior and the economy of a hybrid. The big question is how does it drive ?

A technical masterpiece that has the one pedal driving experience of a BEV whilst also offering the economy of a 1980s diesel car, despite being petrol powered.

I have one in Valencia orange for a month now. Brilliant top quality car with great handling, refinement and 54MPG all day long. I had a 2018 Fiesta diesel and this car is superior. Styling is wonderful, seats brilliantly comfortable. Best hatchback in the market by far.

I bought one in shadow grey, had it for a month now and I'm really impressed. You definitely get a lot for your money, looks, comfort, performance and frugality. I like the B mode driving and trying to find out if the break lights come on when in use as it is as reactive as using the normal breaks. This a great feature as it saves your break pads and energy regeneration is good. I love my car 😍

Driven 4k in 5 months iron blue. Average in Eco 70 to 75 mpg. Mainly Town B roads. Im tall like Ped, yet ergonomics excellent. Ditched my E class diesel. Best decsion ever. 530 miles tank £45 Costco. Handlling is spot on, steering feel excellent. Brakes gradual not grabby. Sound system v good.. It feels quicker under 30 mph due to been in electric most of the time. Instant poke. Love it so far . Also have a ceramic grey colour hybrid. The LED day time lights are on both front & rear, all other functions are auto, hi bean asssit a bounus. 5 stars

I picked mine up a
month ago exactly like this. I'm over the moon with it even coming from an i20N. The interior quality is mega and if you
ask me is on par if not better than the, albeit boring, Polo. MPG is astounding too. I genuinely love driving it. Great review as always!

Had mine exact same spec since January. Just over 5000 miles in and averaging 61.1 mpg. Great little car with everything in it. Came from a 2019 polo gti and don't really miss the extra performance

I’ve had mine since October. In that colour and trim. It’s great. I really like it. Looks great and handles pretty well.

Got the pre face lift rs line version and have also driven this version, lovely cars to drive, regularly getting 65 mpg, also drove from Cornwall to Paris no problem, quiet good road manors,

£25k, wow, what a lot of car for reasonable money. More reviews like this please Pedro.. Great to see what's on the market for future cars. Cheers

Another great review Ped.

I owned a Mk 1 Clio 1.4 back when they were new for about 6 weeks. It was a great little car but the driver of a furniture removal van didn't think so and wrote it off for me, forcing me to get a 19 16v. We've had a couple of other clios over the years and they've been really good. The missus was about to get one of the ones you've tested here but then the 5 e tech was announced and a deposit put down on one of those instead.

Design wise, I think Renault are on top form at the moment.

Lovely looking car - always liked the new gen Clio and had a 220 Trophy a good few years ago and loved it. This looks so much better inside too!

Interesting test. A few weeks ago I took my son and his wife to collect their Dacia Jogger hybrid, which I think has the same power train. They get 60mpg on a motorway run and 50+ around town. While at the dealer, I sat in several Renaults and like you was very impressed by the quality of the interiors.

Brilliant review I have to say. I do like that version of the Clio and am not surprised that it's easy to run as it reminds me of the Clio diesel I had from the point of view of it having a bigger engine and being very frugal on the juice as my diesel Clio regularly managed 65mpg at 70 mph. It uses the exact same hybrid system as the Arkana that you test drove a wee while ago. Whilst £25k is alot for a Clio you're getting quite alot for your money.

Definitely an affordable car, which is exactly what all the manufacturers have missed to date, most motorists will want what this provides. Pat on the back for Renault then.

Sorry for being so late in the discussion and forgive may poor english. I have one exactly like the one reviewed since april and I couldn't agree morewith you: it's a fantastic car. Everything, from the classy design to the quality of the powertrain it's at superlative. This is may third owned Renault and the best yet. In fact I was so happy about it, that trying to keep the interior clean and shiny I managed to scratch the infotainment screen. Idiot... I think it was because the cloth I used to wipe the screen. Anyway, getting back to the car, one of the sweet points for me is the quality of the Bose audio system. Spotify from a OPPO phone and a 12 chanels FX Sound equalizer makes Iron Maiden sound like heaven. Or hell, whatever suits you. And this how you find something genuinly british inside a french car.
Excellent review, keep it up.
Oh, I almost forgot, in my country the price (after all the discounts and deductions) was 19, 000 pound sterling. Renault Clio E-tech 143 Esprit Alpine, all options included.

Absolutely awesome car & totally agree with you on everything about this car but?? Even just give the choice of one that had at least 200 BHP then it would be a perfect hot hatch with EV technology included & that would be the only EV i would ever own if it was 1 a Hybrid & 2 at least 200 BHP!! Especially as we have no more fiesta st or clio rs!!!😭 Great video Pete!!👌🏻👍🏻
