Started my Remodeling company in 2008. Now I'm a general contractor doing 5, 000 sqf homes. My advice. Work hard and become the best. It's a 24/7 365 commitment to make it work. Don't hire to many. Keep your team small and your quality high! Pay your help a wage you would be happy with! IF YOU START WITH THIS YOU WILL WIN!

Great video! I graduated from a 4 year college and became an insurance adjuster. I had a company car and expense account etc. After 15 years I hated that job and went back to school. I went to PTEC trading at a junior college which is for working at a refinery as an operator. Got an internship at 40 years old and was hired on. I more than doubled my income and now make 6 figures. Unlimited overtime and great benefits. Blue collar jobs pay well and when your done with the work day your done.

Carpentry and especially framing are a young man’s game. You don’t want to be framing at 55-60. The thing no one talks about when thinking about starting a business as a tradesman is how to run a “business”. You can be the best at your particular trade but if you start getting employees you are now a business owner. I know lots of trades guys who are in business, they have no clue and get in trouble either with the IRS or state.

If you work for and by yourself, you don’t really have a business, you have a good paying job.

I’m 58 and have been in the HVAC and electrical trades since I was 16. I’ve done well but worked my arse off. Now enjoying the fruits of my labor. The trades are and will continue to be fantastic but ya gotta work!

I went to college and became a network administrator. Worked at it for 6 years and was successful but unhappy. I finally listened to my friend who had been a Carpenter for the last 10 years and joined the union as a Carpenter apprentice. It's been the best decision I have ever made. I leave work everyday tired and happy. I am learning new skills all the time. Glad to see that Carpentry is your #1. Thanks for taking time to make these videos.

Like your vids and the content, I am an electrician in south africa to be honest there is decent coin in the trade but if I had to do it all over again I would go into plumbing plainly because not alot of people are affraid to go and install a light or socket outlet and brag about it with their friends but nobody wants to go unclog a drain or fix a leaking toilet or whatever the job is dirty but plainly because people dont want to mess around in drain water and toilets for me the demand is much higher for plumbers

I’ve been in the HVAC business for nearly 50 years. Being exposed to all the other trades I’ve become a renaissance man. I can do a little of everything. Over the years working on my own stuff I’ve save hundreds of thousands of dollars doing it my self. At the end of the day I can step back and say I did that with my own two hands.

You could add Millwrighting, Pipefitting, Industrial Electrician, Power Systems Electrician and Industrial Instrument and control systems too. All very necessary in an industrial setting. After 21 years in the military I was taken on as an Instrument apprentice. Four years of apprenticeship, four 10 week sessions in school. I earned my Journeyman Certification in 2017 and now earn a bit over $200k/yr.

I'm a carpenter apprentice in Ireland. Over here it's a good job sure, But there are many many drawbacks to consider. 1 an apprentice is 98% of the time to have his own transport and some tools. Luckily that didn't slow me down I also got all of my safety certs and experience too. Chippies also earn less than plumbers and electricians. We require more tools to do the job and most likely our job is more physically strenous. Bu the upside is major job satisfaction aswell as you get to smell timber all of the time 😀😀

This is encouraging very much so. I am interested in HVAC and plan on going to school in Jan. The goal is to eventually have my own business. I did go to college to learn business but the jobs out there are trash. Tired of going from job to job to job. I think I should have gotten into the trades. Someone said that learning a trade is for dumb people and I’m not much of a handy person. What a narrow minded individual. Will check out the post on how to start your own business

Agreed. Now a days ppl don't want to learn nor put in the work. Your #1 trade is a dying breed. Houses come prefab anyone can throw together. But to actually fix something or build something to match existing structures that's a true carpenter

Nate, your content here is great and I admire how you've built a great business for yourself. The furniture and projects look incredible! I followed you on Instagram back when it seemed you were getting started, alas I killed the app and my account recently, and I was impressed by your talent; I follow you on here instead and may be looking for a coffee table soon. It's also great to see someone not afraid to bring their faith into their profession, glory to God for His work in you! Your video on "college being a scam" was intriguing. Your logic is sound and I'd like to hear more; I'm noticing more students seeking trades nowadays being an educator. Any way to connect?

Depends where you are from but I would believe electricians are the top trade right now . Unless your the business owner as far as I know the electricians in my area make more than carpenters…. Either way demand is really high for all the trades across the country in 2022!

I installed 2 interior doors recently. I didnt know doors come as blanks with no knob hole and no hinge cutouts. I thought you slap it up on the old hinges and your done.

So immediately I realized frig. This is more work then I thought. Also... This is going to cost $600 at least to hire someone. So.i bought a door knob drilling kit and a proper chisel and taught myself how to cut out hinges old school style. It took less then 1 day to do 2 doors and I bet tons of younger carpenters don't even know how to do it that way because new doors come pre hung in the frame. And any time they come across a door replacement they only bid it as a pre hung door with a frame Tear out.

Yeah no thanks. Everything is figure out able.

Electrician whoo! I've been an electrician for 5 years I don't have my license yet, but I definitely have experience, and I don't take less than $27hr. When I get my license I will definitely have more freedom to pick where I want to go and how much I want to make.

As an owner, the sky's the limit as far as income potential and it doesn't matter the trade. As a tradesmen working in the field elevator mechanic is the highest paying trade (at least that I know of). Right below them are service plumbers, service electrians, hvac/refrigeration techs, welders, lineman.

I disagree with this video's number one selection of Carpenter. The average Carpenter (none owner just an employee), isn't pulling in near the check as the trades listed above.
