I consider the breaking in process a battle between my foot and the shoe. I've had some close calls but so far my feet have come out on top.

I used to wear cowboy boots (they were Justin's Western Bay Apache) when I was 20. I wore them while cutting hair. My feet felt... good. I really liked the arch support. It also seem to help my posture a little bit. Plus, no laces, so I didn't get hairs working it's way into my socks.
I stopped because of very stupid reason. There was a girl I really liked and she didn't dig them.

Now, I am thinking about wearing them again.

I was given (from mum) a pair of Tony Lama (eland leather) "seconds" that got me through High School, two university degrees, and lots of work. They lasted about 25 years. I went through three soles (that I can remember) and countless heels. When going through the airport the boots had to be scanned - the heel had become solid nails. I've just ordered a replacement pair.

Thanks for the advice!! I definitely need to get some new boots. I bought the ariat composite toe cowboy boots for a job I had a few years ago. They have done me great so far. I've only had to remove the original insole for a... we'll say aftermarket. I need something for going out on the town now lol. My cowboy hat has gotten me many compliments so far.
So glad I dropped the T-shirt/sweatpants life. Yes, I'm a "all hat, no cattle" cowboy.

Decent video for those buying boots for style, but obviously not a working cowboy. Two major considerations for cowboys or western riders: leather soles and rounded toes. Leather soles keep you from getting hung up in the stirrup if you need to bail off a horse or if your half thrown and need to get clear. They’ll slide out where a rubber sole will stick and get you hurt. Rounded toe slides into the stirrups easy, making it easier to recover a lost stirrup while on the move. Both serious safety concerns for a rider. And you can wipe the mud and manure off and still do a good two step!

Conditioning boots is very important in order to prevent cracking. I use Bick 4 leather conditioner on my leather and exotic boots. Once my boots start looking dull, it's time to condition them. I love my Justin ostrich ropers because they're so comfortable.

I live and work on a horse ranch in AZ. I have maybe 15 pair of cowboy
boots. 3 are too worn out to wear an need fixed, two don't fit with
winter sox so are summer boots, only one is nice enough to wear to
dinner and all of them are what are called "rider boots" so have a tall
heel and are made for spurs. These are tools around here just like a
tractor or a saddle. I like Ariat, Double H, and Lucchese boots. My
wife and my girlfriends say narrow square toe are the most sexy...

I still remember that brain fart I had a while back. I know - it’s branded into my brain pretty much - that leather soles are slippery. I decided to walk on carpet in brand new boots and ate the wall and carpet. 🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️🤦‍♂️

Rough out is the pretty grain side is in the boot with the fibrous back facing out, suede they removed the top grain leaving the fibrous back and suede can be torn and pulled apart with your hands if there is nothing glued on the back side to support it.

The very best pair of cowboy boots I ever had was a Dan Post and it was made with baby buffalo they were like house slippers. They were so comfortable there was no breaking. I never wanted to take them off I would take afternoon naps and wake up and I never took my boots off all day they felt so good and comfortable. I wore them until the souls had a hole in him and finally that he'll fell off of 1. Still I had them resold and new heels and more than another 20 years finally I had to throw them away it was the saddest day of my life.

I discovered Justin Ropers back in college when I worked on a feedlot. I still wear them. I even ride in them. My dad's probably turning in his grave that I ride in a walking heel. But with my knee issues I can't walk in a riding heel anymore.

If you want rubber soles make sure the boot has a 270 degree Goodyear wwelt that makes it easy to resole it. New Tecovas banderas in chocolate bison is shipped.

I wore my black dan posts with black dress pants, dark red dress shirt and tie. To a wedding reception and someone pointed out the fact I was wearing boots, In a complementary kind of way. I wore my same black boots to a job interview one time, I'm not sure if anyone noticed or not.
