What removes contact glue residue best - Test - Boat McRill

A while ago I was involved in a discussion on a facebook forum about what method best removes old contact glue residue from the inside of the hull after have removed hull lining.

I got some suggestions and decided to test Aceton, Label Off (glue residue remover), Thinner, Rotating brush, Japan Filler, Chisel and more. See the result of the test in the video.

Acetone has worked decent for me in the past. The trick is you have to let it soak. Acetone evaporates fast so you have to keep a rag on the glue you want removed, and continually add small amounts of the acetone so it stays wet and can work itself into the glue and loosen it.

Try a combination of softening with a stone and the scraping.

Oscillating multitool with scraper blade zips it right off if the fiberglass is smooth. Unfortunately for me, my fiberglass is rough, so I'm going to have to get the last bit off with something chemical. Thanks for the informative video!

In Colombia there is a liquid called "varsol" i thought It is something like the kerosene and It works so good.

I did the forward galey with angle grinder and kemigreen glue remover, it was a painstaling job.
When fixing the rear galey I Will let the kontact cement be and glue on top of it, I don't think it will do any harm (I hope)

Jag gör samma roliga jobb på min båt, jag använder en satineringsmaskin med mässingstrissa, funkar helt ok. Ska testa ditt tips med label off.

I’m in the USA, I use a product call Goo Gone with a piece of steel wool. Sprayed the goo gone on the glue and let it sit. Then scrubbed like holy hell and it still hard came off. But I had better results using a wire wheel on a grinder with the goo gone and whipped it down with acetone
