I Spent Two Years Farming from Scratch

This is my second year farming, we plant some soybeans, Oats, and Alfalfa. Last year was all corn and this year we are trying new crops. I'll show the whole process from planting to harvest and everything in between. Much of the larger equipment is not mine and is borrowed from my neighbors and brother. I include how the financials looked for this year's farming as well as from this YouTube channel, hopefully the video is entertaining and some of the financial details I include are meant to help others out in their lives ,and no way am I trying to brag or show off. The goal of the channel is to be as transparent as possible and make videos that provide value to those who watch. It goes without saying that I couldn't have done this without help from family and friends along the way.

Grant and the team at Squad Built have spent the last few years working on it and continue to bring new updates. It's something they are very proud of and playing the game helps support the game grow into the future!

As a young person who would love to get into farming, I really appreciate that you include all your finances.

The amount of support that you got from your brother/family and your neighbors was outstanding.

"we borrowed a neighbors..." is a strong statement when you can use it that often in one video. Thank thy neighbor and return the favor, you have some good neighbors it sounds like. God bless

You are the people whose ambition, brains, labor, skills make America great. Thanks for letting the rest of us see how farming is done. God Bless.

You've got an instinctive ability when it comes to teaching. I'm going to recommend a number of topics for the "Off" season that I think a lot of people could learn from even though you've covered some of them spread out in your other videos.

Here are some suggestions: Why plant Oats? Why plant Alfalfa? What crops to rotate and why? How do you know when your field is telling you what to plant? What are some less common field crops being planted in the Midwest? How much tile is too much? How does the government affect your planting choices? How do you choose insecticide and when to apply? What is crop insurance?

I'm just recommending these because you're a really good source of information and judging from some of the comments I think there are quite a few of your viewers that would benefit. I'm sure you've got tons of great ideas so ignore me if I'm being a pain in the neck. Thanks for the great videos!

At least you tried. You had more courage than I did to go back. I got selected by LBJ in 1967 from a 1400 acre Michigan family farm, to go to the Republic of Vietnam, and get blown up. My next door farm neighbor, Alexander Zsigo was killed in Vietnam in 1967, the month I got called. God bless and keep you from the bottom of my heart. It's great to see your work. Great video.

Hey as someone with a lot of experience in alfalfa farming heres a few tips for your next season…
1. When working with it use dust masks. That dust that it kicks up is very fine particles and will mess up your lungs in the long term.
2. Please don’t seed it with grass seed as well it just makes the process a lot longer and makes your final product a lot less pure when starting out.
3. You can make thicker wind rows. It will save you a lot of time while baling.
4. Youre doing a great job…keep it up!

Farming is some of the most labor intensive but also the most relaxing work you can do. Nothing beats the peace and freedom of it. The community that comes with it is the most kindest people you will meet people, they want to help each other and expect nothing back because they love doing as well. You also don’t have to get all technical in it, time on the dirt will tell you what you need to know. Learn as you go with what works, where and go from there.
Also, you don’t have to be a mechanic to work on your equipment, you learn as you go, you find ways to get you through, if you don’t have fresh parts laying around.

Well worth watching this video. I really enjoy the breakdown of the income and expenses. Having Grant and Josie, and your neighbors helping is really cool. Most channels don't show the YouTube income and crop data, but show the expensive equipment. Good thing you have YouTube helping out.
