What you’ll like about Sonic 2 and Sonic 3 is that their level design is way better than 1 and CD. They allow for much more speed and enjoyable thrills than the previous two

I'm so excited! I don't mind if you miss the emeralds. They are a little hard to get in this game. It takes time and practice honestly.

Sonic 2 should be easier than Sonic CD, it's also more speed based in contrast to its predecessor's platform focused gameplay. Their are also two acts per Zone in order to keep levels from feeling too long. Also collecting all seven chaos emeralds will allow Sonic to become a Super Saya- I mean Super Sonic!

P.S. holding up while pressing the jump button in midair will cause Tails to start flying.

Jump up to Tails while he's flying to get him to airlift you.

While being airlifted mash the jump button to go higher

hold down + jump to let go of Tails.

You're right, you could have got another go at another emerald. You can actually get all 7 in the first Zone if you know where to look

I ma explain
1) yes, you can go into multiple special stages in a level if you can find the checkpoints and have 50 rings with you
2)if you can get all the chaos emeralds, you can become super sonic, just jump in the air with the chaos emeralds collected and with 50 rings, you will be invinclble and will go fast, but at the cost of your rings draining, if it hits 0 when your super, you will turn back to normal

Also once you get all seven chaos emeralds you can unlock super sonic and the good ending of the game. To activate it you get 50 rings, jump, then while in midair press x on Nintendo switch

Tails can fly you. Hold the up arrow and repeatedly tap the jump button. Make sure you land in Tails’ arms and he’ll hold you

There ARE 7 chaos emeralds, getting them will provide some context for Sonic 3 as well as the real Final Boss and a "Super" Unique Ability, also the Bombs are never random so if you memorize where the bombs are it makes it MUCH easier

To answer your questions about the checkpoints, yes you can use them to get multiple emeralds in a single act. Though they're sequential, so if you hit one later in the level all the previous ones automatically get used.

Yes you technically can get an emerald per checkpoint (sonic 2 was my first game)
