extremely true Mr. Roy. the last 7 years I worked as a carpenter renovating hospitals. i worked 6-7 days a week, going to work in the dark, working in the dark, and then going home in it. i completely lost my soul afterwards, forgot who i was, so i switched into the education program to become a teacher and turned blacksmithing into a part time business. LOVE IT! But still, when money was coming in I would spend too much time in the shop and not enough time being a human. last few months i focused my energy into doing projects that I enjoy. "We keep moving forward, opening up new doors and doing new things, because we're curious … and curiosity keeps leading us down new paths."

Thanks for the reminder Roy. I struggle with that from time to time.

One aspect of Roy being a blacksmith on YouTube is that he is also an excellent video photographer and editor as seen in this video!

Hi Roy. This really resonates with me. My Etsy has really picked up this month and I've just finished a stressful week of trying to get orders out on time while dealing with power cuts and having to take a day off. I really questioned what I was doing at some points, but it feels really good to look back on it and I feel like I've learned a lot.

In addition to your individual story, this craft is especially tied with the interactions with others. How each individual story weaves with others through collaboration or influence, to create a vivid tapestry. I feel YouTube kinda harnesses that and allows us to showcase that mutual journey through time.

Currently contemplating all of this. I'm currently in a full time job but want to start smithing as a hobby. I have spent months "thinking about it" but only today decided to start buying parts to build a burner. Been watching your videos for the last 4 hours and over the last month's.
For some reason I am terrified of taking this step but am starting to see the bigger picture and what this may mean for my life. Thank you for the videos and advice from specifics of hammering to the lessons of life.

wise words, and hear, hear. it's funny how the things we invest heart and mind into, for whatever reason, can kinda morph into a warped or corrupted version of the original intention- that excited curiosity and an unexpected revelation of this whole new world opening up that sets a fire in your heart and makes you wonder what's over the horizon. after all, everything so far has been a total joy and shaken salt and pepper onto your world, right? so the next thing HAS to be even more so: a logical progression. trouble is, Humans are emotional creatures! lol.. and i dunno about anyone else out there, but i tend to forget that "right this moment, here and now", is all that truly matters. take good care of now, be true and maintain the wonder.. this is crucial to assuring you've done all you can to work towards your vision of a happy future.

just an opinion, just my take on this video- for which i take my hat off to Roy for taking the time to impart not only the fruit of wisdom earned- but for showing what is a great kindness. so, goodonya Roy! cheers Mate.

The cool thing is you can just hang with your smithing friends, no work needed. Still fun.
