Mesa Boogie Mark III Demo - Metal

I put this together pretty quickly. There aren't a whole lot of proper demos of the Mesa Mark III out there, so I thought I should make one. This is more of a how close can it sound like Petrucci video more than anything else video.

0:00 Constant Motion
0:10 Overture 1928
0:43 The Shattered Fortress
1:07 Pull Me Under

I'll try to do up a better video whenever I have time, but this should give you a good idea of how it sounds.

Signal chain:

Ibanez RG565/Ibanez RG7421 - Mark III blue stripe - 2x12 Rectifier cab - SM57 - crappy interface - Sonar

The Overture 1928 backing was made by me. The only guitars that aren't mine in this video are the backing guitars during the Pull Me Under solo. The guitars you hear are straight from the mic. There is very little post production done to the guitar tracks.

And yes, I realize there are some audio artifacts in the video. That's either coming from Youtube or my video editor.

Amazing tone! Just got a Mark III myself, its on its way. Could you tell me what settings you used for Overture? That was just so spot on, I couldn't even tell any differences. Also, any post-production you did? I noticed you said that was little, whats "little" lol. Thanks man

Most underrated amp in the whole series.

Honestly I don't really remember. Haha. I started with settings similar to Petrucci's settings, which you can find on his Mark V video or his website, and tweaked it from there. Keep quite a bit of mids and turn the really high end down a bit.

@ProgFront

Just two guitar tracks for the rhythm tracks that I recorded.

Thank you for deeply inspiring me to get off my ass and get mine fixed.

Hah nice, you must have a well treated room and a nice audio interface cause all I get is really shrill highs in the dead center :P. Great job man!

Can you post the knob settings in the description? This sounds awesome!

Imo, it's all a matter of preference. The IIC+ is regarded as king when it comes to the lead channel, but they all sound pretty similar to me. The difference between the IIC+ vs the others certainly isn't worth the $2-3000 price difference that they carry around.

But yeah, they're all based on the same Mark IIC+ sound basically. You can get all of them to sound similar with the right settings.

Nice! We actually run similar rigs, mine is a green stripe and I run a 2x12 with Eminence governors (V30 clone) and cab built to mesa specs. Oddly my double tracks are very "condensed" and a bit "screechy". Are you doing dead center mic-ing with DT stuff as well like your Metallica one?

That’s was awesome. What post processing and effects?

@axe427 Haha no worries man, didn't wanna be a douche like others and keep asking settings but it just sounds so amazing, couldn't resist :P. The Shattered Fortress tone could use some work though, something is amiss there. Thanks for the advice though, appreciate it man.

I've been playing a Mark V for about 2 years, and I keep hearing that the older Marks (II through IV) have a better lead channel. What's your opinion?

A great amp, but falls short of the full bore madness of the rest of the MK series somehow. Hey, every family has that one member that's just kinda chill, it's normal.
