Massive tech outages Friday around the world are impacting airlines, businesses, offices and companies that are using Microsoft software. Apple and Linux systems are working normally. The issues are due to a technical problem that global cybersecurity firm CrowdStrike said it had identified in its software and was working to resolve. CrowdStrike provides antivirus software to Microsoft for its Windows devices. CBS News senior foreign correspondent Elizabeth Palmer has more.

It got my PC. Having my OS backed up to the cloud and set as a boot option in BIOS saved the day!

This is what happens when you test code in production

I don't understand why they didn't test this update before rolling it out. Or if they did, why it didn't show up as a problem...

That would suck to have to admit. "Sorry everyone. I know it seems like we were just attacked, but that was our bad." I would imagine someone is going to be getting a long unpaid vacation for this. Maybe a few people!

This is a clear classic hard evidence that Cash is still King! No matter how advance the tech digital world is, there will always be instances like this unforeseeable.

How is the update deployed to production env without proper testing? Which company supplies the software to the airlines? The company that provides airline software must be sued. Every company customize their operating system. MS releases updates to millions. Why airline software only affected? So, while applying any update, they should have tested it. Airline software company must be sued.

Why do we have a single point of failure for all these huge companies and systems? Lazy engineering

"This is not a cyber attack." If they have to tell you its not a cyber attack, its a cyber attack.
