Morning! Is LEICA just a statement to you or much more?

I never wanted to spend the money on the Q2, although I love the style. I found a used one and jumped in, thinking I could resell it. I hate to say it, but there is something magical about the images that I can't seem to get enough of. Each shot surprises me . . .I don't know exactly what it is. It is a different image than I can get with my Fujis or Sonys at the same focal length.

I'm waiting/saving for the Q3. Rumoured to be announced in June/July. I have a Sony A7IV now which I love. However, I want a daily carry that I always have. The size is great and it's such a capable camera. My plan is to have longer lenses for the Sony and then use the Q3 for street and wide photos.

Great video fellas. I've used various brands, models, formats both film and digital. Last year I went mad bought the Q2 to scratch my lifelong Leica itch, sadly I killed it 14 days later. In those 14 days I was almost totally hooked love the size, feel, Image quality, simplicity of use, wasn't overly impressed with the noise at 3200 plus, etc etc. So while the Q2 was away for repairs I bought a used slightly damaged Q. Wow at 24mp this things is simply stunning. Now my Q2 is back I also adore it and ache to use it every day, however for anyone out there itching for a Q2/3 but is struggling to justify the cost I'd advise grab yourself a Q just cover the mic ports to avoid dust getting to the sensor and you'll be happy imho.

Leica is about two things for me: simplicity and [relatively] unique quality.

Mostly I use Leica lenses on a Nikon Z camera. Manual focus slows me down, and this is good. Recently I was looking at some of my photo sessions from 2017, about 300-500 images per hour. Now it's closer to 50-100. Yet the number of 'keepers' has increased because there is more intention.

Zoom lenses, and most prime lenses today are about 'clinical perfection'. There are several Leica options at key focal lengths, offering different image presentation. First, the 'Leica Look' includes the reduced contrast to go with the reduced sharpness away from the focal plane. We are trained to study 'bokeh balls', but the real benefit is the look of the near out-of-focus region, when it is both softer and still discernible. This is illustrated with food photography, if the food on the fork is sharp while the rest is out of focus yet completely identifiable. Most high-quality primes do well with this, and they also tend to cost $2k or more. Leica lenses are smaller and the lens designers put special care into this aspect of the image.

While Leica lenses are expensive, many used ones get into the $1000-3000 price range. While that is still a lot, it's comparable to what photographers pay for typical 'pro' lenses.

Good to see a Joey H collab:) he definitely convinced me to get my Ghost Q2. Pierre just FYI, even though it’s not quite the same thing you can use touch and drag focus on the Q2. That’s what I’ve used instead of a joystick

I just ordered my Q2 today. I’ve shot both Nikon and Fuji. I had both an x-t3 and x100f. I sold all my Fuji gear. Excited to start shooting with the q2.

I like the idea of the Q2 because I like my GRIII. However, I wonder if I will notice more the full frame f1.7 benefits or the size and weight benefits of the Ricoh.

I love my Q2. I have the sl2s for everything else, but the Q2 for me is the perfect everyday companion. Tried the X100V for a couple of months and it never seemed to let me get my kind of shot. I’m no pro. But I always seem to get the shot with the Q2.

So many reasons for that:

1 I have it with me more often.
2 let’s call it a Ferrari vs Ford and therefore I want to use it more and have improved with it
3 it has a better lens.

Here’s my view, grab your A7RIII/IV/V and the sony 50mm/40 F2.5. Then you have a razor sharp high quality lens, small setup, high resolution, great AF. Then make a pic profile close to Leica’s and you’re there much cheaper

Not a big fan of the Q series. Picked up a few over time to try them and as soon as I take a look in the EVF, it’s for me just as big brands hybrids. No point in picking up a Q if it’s only to use it with autofocus. This is why I prefer the rangefinder of the M series. Much more enjoyable experience. Still use Fuji x100f or v but I take snapshots with them, I concentrate much less when I take a picture with those than when I use my Leica Ms.
Almost any camera available on the market now can be a Pro camera. Just have to use it within the constraints it’s built for.

So enjoyable listening to your passionate observations on the Q2. Dialogue throws up all sorts of comments which might have been missed otherwise. Wonderful. Thank you for sharing. You describe the rationale behind using a Leica so beautifully. It's all about the 'art of photography', after all. Purity is key !

Hi Pierre, what a great little Camera the Leica Q2 is. I like the feature that gives you Frames you can change, to 35mm, 50mm and 75mm, really nice feature. Love the photo of the church in the snow, looks like the photos in the magazines, great colours. Love the winding road photo and the glass doors photo. Being a fashion accessory do you have to wear <PIERRE CARDIN> clothes and accessories to match the Camera. Great video, thank you, Pierre and Joey.

I had a Leica CL with 4 lenses and a Fuji X100V. I sold them both and got a Q2. I love it.

I made an alternative street photography account on Instagram and stated all my pictures were taken by the Q2 (they were from sony a9) and I got a ton more followers in a week wtf

First and foremost, if you buy this camera because it inspires you to be creative then it's worth the money! That aside, I would never buy it because it does nothing for me personally. I know for a fact you can get the same image out of any modern digital camera in post. With that being said I don't think people truly by this camera because of the image/colors. It is 100% a brand thing and also the idea of having a fixed point and shoot so that removes any and all debate over your gear pack as you have only one option with this camera. It's totally not my cup of coffee but I completely understand the want and desire to shoot with one!

I’m a longtime Nikon shooter and a more recent Fuji shooter. But then I picked up a Leica Q2 and now fully understand why Leica has such a loyal following. It’s an amazing camera. The IQ from the lens continues to wow me and the handling of the camera makes it a joy to use. The high resolution allows for cropping. I’m totally sold on the brand.
