Snap on made sense in a time when quality tools were hard to come by. Those days are over.

It's not about breaking it. It's about my brother in law not returning it.

Interesting that you mention dead blows, a friend found a Snap-On ball pein bent in the workings of a scissor lift. He asked me to get it warranted for him, Snap-On forever lost any chance of selling me anything when the route driver looked me in the eye and said,
"YOU didn't buy THAT from ME"
Snap-On only has a warranty if you are dealing with the same exact person with the same exact tool, and it doesn't extend to your children, that is no warranty at all. If I buy Snap-On it's from a pawn shop. Glad I learned that lesson in 1993.

I worked 21 years as a mechanic the first master tech I worked under told me to stay off the tool trucks if necessary. He said buy cheap tools if they break twice replace them with a tool truck replacement. He saved me THOUSANDS I have maybe 60 snap on / max tools everything else is a mix between harbor freight, gear wrench, and old craftsman.

I don't wrench for a living anymore. So I've been selling off my SnapOn tools and replacing them with HF Icon or Pittsburgh, and pocketing a good bit of money while doing it. The Icon tools are just as nice, in my opinion. And HF's floor jacks are practically an industry standard.

Snap On is Gucci for mechanics. Some people gotta have that brand name tool.

My Snap-On dead blow disintegrated in South America. My Pittsburgh one is still here, decades later, just flaking off pieces, but it still dead blows!

I'm a full time heavy equipment mechanic. My tools are essentially all harbour freight. I've never broken a socket, and the only ratchet I broke I ran over with a skid loader, and I got it replaced on my way home. The idea people buy a dead blow hammer that's basically the exact same thing for 10xs the amount shows it's fashion not function.

I have used quite a few snapoff tools in my day, and never once have I said geez this was totally worth the money.

I have three SnapOn tools. Two are broken and one is a can huggie that works awesome!

I'm a lifelong Snap On guy but I do buy some HF "throwaways" . Recently while at Tractor Supply I bought a pair of dead blow hammers at the table by the checkout for $10. They do the job.

I’m a heavy equipment mechanic. I tell the young guys buy a lot of cheap crap first then upgrade as you break it and take hone the cheap stuff. When I was up in the Arctic working snap on deadblows worked outside in -48. Cheap ones broke first hit. You could change a tire with a snap on Mac or proto ratchet. The cheap ones usual snapped.

Another great buy at H.F. is their floor jacks. I have raised numerous different vehicles with the same Daytona 3 ton low profile jack and it has outlasted the two other name brand jacks three times over.

This is true for every harbor freight tool. I bought I pack of 10 screwdrivers for $3 and it comes with a lifetime warranty. If one breaks I could flat out buy another set for 1/30th the price of ONE snap on screwdriver but I don’t need to buy another set because it has LIFETIME WARRANTY

The only Snap-On tools I buy are the super rare tools that NOBODY else sells. (Certain bits, sockets, and thread dies) And there's a few tools that I use all day every day, so I choose to buy Snap-On or other tool truck brands. I have 3 or 4 Matco tools, a handful of MAC, a few Snap-On, and Proto. Everything else I own is brands like Harbor Freight, Craftsman (the O.G. Sears USA made Craftsman!) Tekton, Husky, Knipex, Klein, etc.

Ya a week or two for snappy to come around then he'll have to order it, then it's on national back order, then they are field testing them. Then you might get it but...😅 I've been wrenching over 30 years, I'm sold on ICON. HF has come a long way from when they started. 😊

My rule with harbor freight is basically, if it has a battery, don’t buy it. Also don’t buy anything that cuts.. blades or bits. Their wrenches and sockets are great especially when comparing price vs warranty.

Our snap on dealer at my shop likes to just show up when he feels like it, at one point we didn’t see him for about a solid month and so harbor freight has been my new go to and I’ve had no issues and loved everything
