🍥 I took a stab at making Hard Tack Candy. The recipe was given to me by a friend to try. It is very easy to make and makes a lot! I actually halved the recipe.
*In a pot, add 1.75 cup sugar, .5 cup water, .5 cup light (color, not calorie) corn syrup. Turn on heat, mix till dissolved, bring to hard boil. At 300 degrees f, turn off heat, add food color and flavor to desired amount and stir in. Pour over parchment paper and leave on the counter till cooled. No fridge! Once hard, break into pieces, toss with some powdered sugar, and enjoy!
*Here is a way to check the temp if you don't have a candy thermometer.

MY TOOLS
My how to make tutorials are made with just a handful of basic tools.

FONDANT OR GUM PASTE?
I use BOTH Fondant and Gum Paste for very different reasons.
Fondant (or Sugar Paste) is used to cover a cake.
Gum Paste (or Modeling Paste) is used to create cake decorations.

"One and seven quarters cups of sugar". Is that 1-3/4 cups?

You say "water" like my mom did. The other day I was remeniscing on being a kid and remembered my mom making candy for us when I was a kid 50 years ago. So this is the first video I clicked on because I was thinking about making my own candy. Ive never heard anyone else ever pronounce water as "wooder" like my mom. She was raised in North Carolina and Washington D.C. What part of the counrty are you in? Wondering if "wooder" is a regional thing.
Anyway, going to watch the rest of the video now. Thanks.

Has anyone ever added citric acid to create a sour flavor? I haven't experimented yet and don't want to ruin a batch.
