After looking back at this video again, I have found a way to memorize the two: a POSTeriori is referring to things after the experience, or POST-experience. I think I have that right, I hope it helps others as well.

Been trying to figure this out for the past 6 weeks in my philosophy class, if I pass, it is certainly because of this Yt channel; thank you kind and educated gentlemen.

0:13 To be fair, the American pronunciation is closer to the original Latin. So I guess this time we got to give it to them

A priori: rationalism
A posteriori: empiricism

0:38 I'm pretty sure there was a good pun opportunity missed when you were going on about having a "peek" in the fridge for the elephant and the top (peak) of Mount Everest.

That is a much better explanation than I had ever run across.

So "a posteriori" doesn't mean "from the backside" then?

I thought the pronunciation @0:05 was an unhappy product of American English where, when in doubt, they tend to pronounce every new "i" they meet as the /ai/ in "my" rather than as the /i/ in "ship" or the longer /i:/ in "sheep, " with horrible results whenever they tackle foreign words, and with particularly gut-wrenching consequences in Latin and Neo-Latin languages, where "i" is always either /i/ or /i:/ but never /ai/. Anyway, the pronunciation @0:13, whatever you label it, is the most correct one, and it is _much_ preferable, assuming one's goal is to hit the mark with the original Latin.

I’m tearful as heck right now because I’ve been wracking my brain trying to figure this out. Descartes was difficult too. Wish I’d seen this channel before. But I definitely subscribed because I have a D so far in my Philosophy class and need some serious help or they’re kicking me out of college. I’m eight credits away from graduating.

I thought pursuing a degree at 53 years old was a good idea.. this class was a struggle.

I enjoyed learning but it was a harsh blow seeing at midterm I have a D.

Any specific will be appreciated. If this thread isn’t too old thank you

Note that in mathematics (which consists entirely of a priori knowledge) "a priori" is used to mean "before we /know/ otherwise i.e. before we've proven if it is true or not.

Equivocating 3+3=6 with ' all bachelor are unmarried' amounts to the claim that a priori claims are trivial. Kant drew a pretty important distinction between a priori claims and claims that are tautologous, essentially, a priori claims must be substantive, they must indicate something about the nature of cogntition
