Reminds me of that one story from a Discworld novel.

A wizard at the end of his life, used his magic to create a chest that was indestructible, fortified it with runes to prevent Death from getting near and a lock so perfect that it could never be opened. He then entered the chest and marveled at his victory over Death itself. Only to hear: "PRETTY STUFFY IN HERE".

Whats great about death in this version, puss has a moment where he thinks he's safe, he's gotten rid of everyone that could hurt him, he's isolated himself from the world, but death shows up after he starts coughing, and that one sentence he says, it would strip puss of what little peace he might have had alone, because on top of what he's afraid of he'll know that at any moment his body itself could kill him, and they'll be no one left to help him when he starts to go, he's made his death all but a certainty, and he'll know death is waiting and watching, his paranoia would become so much worse because he'll be worried about his body failing him.

I like to imagine the more paranoid and fearful of death the more menacing and terrifying he would appear and act.
Like if you were to just be an old man whose calmly accepted passing, Death probably be a bit more sombre about it while rejecting mortality means he has to be more "aggressive" in approach.
