Cal Hockley is a very underrated antagonist. Great performance by Billy Zane.

So many memorable scenes from this movie but I think this one is really overlooked. It really showcases how brilliant of an actor Billy Zane is... every second is utterly perfect from the twitch in his eye to the immediate mood swing and change in his tone of voice as he gets right into her face. Then immediately shifts back to cordial gentlemen once he knows that he's sufficiently intimidated her. He really nailed the part of the egocentric control freak husband. One who honestly does love Rose, but cannot ever bring himself to see her as anything more than his rightful property. I have heard that he wasn't the first choice to play Cal, and only got the role when others fell through... I say we all got lucky because he was perfect for this role.

It wasn’t until I was older, when I realized it. When Cal said, “I was hoping you’d come to me last night” and Rose replies that she was “tired”. Cal was hoping she would make love to him that night. This was also implied during the deleted scene with Rose and Trudy, as they are discussing being the first to sleep in the bed of the Titanic, and Cal walks in saying he would be Roses’ first.

Well at least he said “Excuse me” at the end of this temper tantrum...

The way Trudy comforts her is like she knew 😢

Can we just talk about how he managed to flip a table with one hand?

Trudy was kind, someone who actually cared about Rose. It's a shame she died

It's kinda crazy that Billy flipping the table was actually not apart of the scene and Kate's reaction was real

Cal flipping the table and trying to control the situation by making it about himself and saying “You will honor me” when Rose was terrified and not expecting that freak out. Great example of abuse. This is the scene where Cal reveals his true colors where he is charming and nice but deep down inside, he is manipulative, toxic, controlling, violent and a dangerous narcissist. Kate Winslet and Billy Zane’s acting were phenomenal.

I love how Trudy (the maid) rushes to help, not just out of duty to clean up but to comfort Rose.

Billy Zane is by far the best part of the film.

I know the real acting chemistry is meant to be the Kate and Leo, but the chemistry Kate and Billy have is also very strong, In the movie they’re supposed to hate each other, but I bet they had a blast doing scenes together. Especially this one.

Cal: *My fiancée. My fiancée! Yes you are, and my wife! My wife in practice if not yet by law, so you will honor me! You will honor me the way a wife is required to honor her husband. Because I will not be made out of a fool, Rose. Is this in any way unclear?*

Billy flipping the table over was not even in the script and I think Jim thought that was absolutely hilarious so he added it

Few domestic violence scenes feel genuinely scary to me, but this feels terrifying.

His acting is so weird but very addicting to watch. It’s like he overplays everything and completely strays from the movies tone. It’s either this sporadic lunatic or this condescending gentleman
