I got it wrong about Charlie Parker.
You see when I was younger, and first really got in to Charlie Parker, I focussed just on the fast virtuosic runs and the sophisticated Bebop language that Bird played.
I ignored the Blues element in his playing - what a fool I was!

My name is Nick Homes. I was, and still am a non genius musician who struggled for many years to find out the secrets of jazz improvisation. Throughout 40 years of playing, and obsessive investigation I have focussed on building systems of learning for my students so they can improve , and reach their learning goals with the highest probability.

That's why Lover Man is his best recording. He was too ill on that date for fast Bebop . He didn't like that track but it shows us his Musicianship was more than fast fingers. Thanks for reminding us.

In my honest opinion you are running the most insightful and most entertaining youtube channel on sax. Wally Wallace is great too but more about comedy and sax technique and less about language and theory. Really good to have this stuff around

There is also a cool blues lick that Wayne Shorter and Chris Potter always quote.

Someone said they found it interesting that the fast stuff Oscar Peterson played sounded even better slowed down, that’s not exactly how they said it, maybe it’s in the shape of the thing

Parker studied everything…….he learned it all and appreciated it all.
We must remembering just because we study something doesn’t necessarily mean we play it in every song. And just because we dont play it doesn’t mean we haven’t studied it and know it.
