Wish i was alive during the 70's, The music was great and life seemed so much better. No mobile phones in the crowd, everyone just taking it all in and enjoying the performance.

An amazing show and an incredible band.
I was 16 and there with 10 of my friends. We are still friends today and have tickets to see America again in March 2023!
Thank you SO MUCH for posting this and bringing to life the fantastic memories.
We are all visible in so many audience shots ... Including our friend, the air guitar player!
Cheers to 1979, NY, America, and Great Friends!

See this? These are musicians, not merely "artists" or "performers." They read music, they sing and don't "filter" or "pitch bend" (or lipsynch) their voices. They play physical instruments masterfully...huge difference!

I’m 22 years old, and nothing will ever compare to this kind of music. 70’s will, in my opinion, be the greatest music ever. A gift from God himself!!!

Man, America was at the top of their game this night in NYC. “Sandman” is an absolute classic! Wow. What a band, what a concert!

This is gold. The foresight to document this in real time. Memorizing

I was at this concert . . . trying to pick myself out of the pictorials. I was approximately 25 rows from the stage left of center-stage (when facing the stage). These guys were terrific. I worked at 9 West (57th St) right behind the Plaza Hotel !. So, it was a short walk to the Wollman Rink to watch the Dr. Pepper Concerts. It certainly brings back many memories of my younger days !

We used to have a beautiful and peaceful country to live in. I challenge anyone of any race tell me things are better now than in 1979. We all got along after the hell of the early 60s. We shared music, joints and great times.

I was lucky enough to see America in 1981!! at the Three Arts Theatre in Plumstead in Cape Town. I was 23 at the time and this band was one of the two biggest influences of my early acoustic guitar career. The other influence was Neil Young

CSNY's little brothers. Doing a consistently excellent job with really good vocals and songs!

Don’t get me wrong-I love this music and I am glad I grew up in this era-but there still was strife, poverty, drug abuse, crime, etc. Paradise and utopia only exist in our memories.

Hats off to a great drummer! All these years, I could gave sworn that was the late and great Hal Blane of the Wrecking Crew on drums. Hal was the quintessential studio drummer for just about all hit songs in the late 60's. And Willie Leacox was just as good. His drumming in the songs Sister Golden Hair and the Tin Man is just SUPERB! What a wonderful band America was. They write, sing, and play instruments, unlike many of the artist today.

So talented. I just saw them in concert for the very first on 7/29/2022 in Petoskey, Michigan. They were great.

My, God, Gerry was awfully damned cute back in the day. Swooning.

I saw America for the very first time at Schaefer Music Festival (s) in Central Park.
Saw so many musicians early in their career America will always be in my heart and soul ; still have first albums and I was just 13!!! Saw them a bit later at Playland Amusement Park (I do believe)
Grateful Amen Namaste 🙏
Cost: $5. Priceless

The 70’s were a great time! Look how Americans used to be, not fat, not covered in tattoos, or weird piercings.
