I wrote an original Sherlock Holmes murder mystery in audio format (hope to have it out later this year). I figured out how Holms figured out the identity of the killer, but there was no proof. So I had Holmes do what he often did in several of his stories--trap the killer into trying to kill someone else and catch him in the act a la THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES or "The Dying Detective" as well as others.

The way you describe the “Tangled Web” plot reminds of a book by Agatha Christie called “Death On The Cards” where a man dies and the four suspects who were with him when it happened all appear to be suspects in different murders, till we find out that one of the deaths is linked to the man’s death, it’s a good story!

2:12 I remember watching Sharp Objects and thinking the killer was a woman until the detective tries and fails to remove teeth from a pigs head like the killer did to their victims. I made the same mistake as he did and ruled them out as suspects, but forgot what the medical examiner said… adrenaline is a hell of a drug
