Coordination for Strength and Power: Fascia, Neural Efficiency, and Dynamical Systems Theory

This video explores the development of coordination for true strength and power. Being strong in isolated muscle groups is not enough: you must be able to use those muscles in a coordinated manner in order to exert real strength and power.

To achieve this, the body must overcome Nicolai Bernstein's "Degrees of Freedom Problem" to learn the most optimum solution to any movement problem. This may result in changes to the fascia and our neural efficiency. It must take into account the senses to form the preceptual motor landscape: information coming in through the senses.

Dynamical systems theory describes this as the body "self-organizing" around the goal, organism, and environment. It is not enough to think of movements as independent from the setting or intention.

In short: repeating the precise same movements over and over to create highly efficient neural networks for perfect execution. But to ensure these movements are ALSO adaptable to be applied to real-world challenges, the athlete/individual should also practice variations. They must practice "repetition without repetition."

Hope you enjoy this video guys: let me know what you think in the comments below!

Your videos are so great that sometimes I download them from the fear of them ever getting deleted
Your vids are so practical and informative, more people should know about you.
This is how everyday training should be.
Thanks man!

Good coverage. My unit trained with carrying and/or pushing weight on sand or mud to develop coordination.

I tell ya man, your channel deserves a million subscribers. Beyond brilliant content to adhere and live to. Most fitness youtubers out there are now trying to vlog some rock n' roll lifestyle in sunnier climates as though everyone can just sod off on a Jet to safer, less locked down places. Its not real. The advice on well being you talk about is inspiring to listen back to in these times. Like most out there, Im back to home workouts again for a few weeks at least, and while it is sometimes tough getting motivated to get on with training in the room here, watching videos like this is fuel and encouragement. Absolutely brilliant.

Been training almost everything from martial arts, calisthenics, plyometrics, isolation, movement, yoga, balance, neurological, meditation, etc. every day. Rest/recovery are when I sleep. Never to failure. My body feels better that way. Every training day is different. I train to be ready for that "day".

Leaving notes
1. Core is essential for stability and balance
2. You must train in accordance with the SAID principle; practice the movements themselves rather than relying solely on supplemental exercises
3. Take into account all stimulatory information when performing movements, what do you see and feel at the same time
4. The mechanics of a movement relying on the environment, goal, and organism performing the movement
5. Neural efficiency- implement the whole body when training movements, and vary your repetitions

Great stuff. The SAID principal keeps coming back. If you want to be good at your sport, the best thing you can do is play your sport. Sure, you can supplement with practice focusing on specific phases or aspects of your sport ( strength demands, mobility, endurance, speed, and so on) but the whole is always greater than the sum of its parts.

I realized the same thing when I started parkour training. Then learned about the natural method training by Georges Hebert..and it changed everything. Great stuff man keep it up.

Great video. I think this is the most underrated fitness channel by far. The Bioneer is the epitome of a well-rounded, fit individual. My goal is to get to your level one day!

I'm glad you decided to keep doing the CGI and now intersperse it between training segments/other graphics -- it integrates so well with your branding and is just straight up cool looking!
