Mahalo guitarist Ben Jaffe teaches you all you need to know about the common chord progression 1-4-5!

Each guitar player and new guitar student develops their own personal style and form as they learn to play over time. Developing some technical skills, like an understanding of tablature, and perhaps studying music theory, notation and rhythm are all important to becoming an accomplished musician. How quickly a certain student learns the guitar will also depend on individual talent and personal dedication to the craft. Practicing songs that are familiar and fun to play for friends can be a motivational inspiration for many guitar students.

This is just BRILLIANT! All of the sudden, it all just clicked in my head. THAT'S what chord progression means! And the counting down to figure out the chords in the key...why has no one explained it to me before like this? All that time wasted...

I never knew what the numbers meant in chord progressions before. I can't believe how easy it is!

This guy is named Ben Jaffe. He's a great guitarist and songwriter. He has a band called honeyhoney. They're really good. Check them out. They're really cool people too. They've been on Joe Rogan's podcast a bunch of times and that format really digs into who the guest is. They're all three-hour, uncut, free-form conversations in which honeyhoney plays a short set at some point in the show. You get a much more clear look at a person than is even remotely possible in a standard interview in print, on TV or even in radio. Check it out people.

So so simple now you've shown me the counting explanation... how obvious once you highlight it!

This video is very helpful. I'm trying to teach myself guitar and this is a easy way to learn. It's very useful. And now I will be able to learn multiple songs on guitar. Thanks you so much. Next time put more examples of songs. That way we can see what songs work and what songs don't. And also make it longer.

just wondering, what is 1 3 5 then, I assume it comes from scale to form a chord and 1 4 5 comes from chord progression..you can correct me if I'm wrong

When you assign the numbers to the chords, when & where do (or dont) majors and minors come into play? I'm trying so hard to get this stuff, I feel like it'll just click and become clear all of a sudden but so far It's still confusing me. For instance, I see people just listen once to a song and say "ah yes that's a 1-3-6-5" ect. but if the assigned numbers change depending on what Key you're in, how do they know that so fast upon a 10 second hearing of a song? Is there a trick to it? It feels like doing math problems in your head or something, like some people are like human calculators and others need to count thier fingers lol

Just print a chord chart from an online search. A good chord chart will include which fingers to use where. Chord charts are easier to use than tabs.
Search "guitar chord chart"
