How to checkmate with 2 bishops - King and two bishops essential endgame.

The two bishop endgame is an essential checkmate that every serious chess player should learn. By using the power of the bishops together, you can corral the king to one side of the board, and then proceed to force the opposing king to a corner, where you can deliver checkmate. Although this checkmate isn't as popular as the King and Rook and King and Queen checkmates, it still comes up quite a bit and is worth taking the time to learn.

Wow, this is the first time I’ve seen someone demonstrate checkmate with bishops only AND providing their thought-process. Seeing someone clarify the main ideas (V, back into the center, take away squares, waiting moves, etc) really makes decision making in chess more approachable. You rock my guy, thank you! 🎊🏆 I’m embarrassed to say I learned the rules of chess at 6 and only now (at 26) did you make me appreciate the logic of going for checkmate in these positions 😂. again, you the man!

The most simple and elegant demonstration of this mate I've ever seen.

Answer to the puzzle: 1.Qh8+ Ke7 2.Qg7+ checkmate

Hiiii I've started the journey of being a future Chessmaster for 3 weeks 🙂
I was looking for a tutorial of the title ' How to checkmate with 2bishops' and you, Nelson taught me really great that I'm completely able to checkmate any Chessmaster using this endgame😉

Always helpful to get tips on how to avoid stalemates. So hard to see those as a beginner.

Watched a couple videos on this and this is the only one that clearly explains it. Thanks!

The best video explaining this on Youtube (I've seen 5). Thanks to it I finally got the hang of it after having literally let a winning game end up in a stalemate because of that. Well done!

This is the best explanation I have seen so far. I kept messing this up at the end and now I know why. Thanks Nelson!!

I'm 950 and almost got this in a game yesterday. I had a king, pawn, and two bishops, and my opponent had a king and bishop. A position arose where he could have sacked his bishop for my pawn and forced me to checkmate with the king and two bishops, which I totally would not have known how to do. Probably would have tried for a little while and then just offered a draw. Thankfully he chose not to do that, and I was able to trade the bishops on the next move and promote the pawn. I should probably practice this mate.

From my experience from playing chess it always seems that the bishops were always used to control the board. The reason I say this is because I’ve seen people use them to
-Restrict the opponents king
-guide other pieces
-open up moves
-threaten other pieces (which only works if your opponent isn’t protecting the piece your attacking)
-Or provide protection for your king
So I always see them as a defensive piece not an offensive piece. So that’s why am watching this video because I wanna know if I can use them to capture a king and use them for capturing pieces.
Especially if out of other pieces that can secure a win.

Checkmate In Two Moves 6:04 Qh8+ Ke7, Qxg7#

I know how to checkmate with bishop and knight.

When I wasted 48 moves and did not checkmate with 2 bishops, I saw that I've left a lesson behind.

Thanks for the video!

Appreciate the content...for people trying to duplicate the moves, it might make sense to slow it down just a hair...reducing playback speed is also possible, though.
