How to Use Game Capture in OBS Studio

An OBS game capture source allows you to display a game or window in your scene. Game capture is a popular method used for recording and streaming gameplay with OBS as it allows for a high frame rate while not showing your desktop if the game is closed. The game capture method is recommended if you’re worried about leaking private information while you play or game.

The game source allows for three capture methods to be used. You can choose to capture the foreground window, any full screen window, or a specific application. Each capture method has their own advantages and disadvantages, however the specific window is the preferred option.

I have a game window open but when I follow these steps I'm stuck with a black screen.

Hey, do you know if there's a way to crop a part of the capture and move it somewhere else. I have stuff hiding behind my webcam that I want to crop out and move to a better position. I've tried making a second game capture but it doesn't work. Only 1 of them will capture the scene. I already know how to crop but I don't know how to make game capture, capture the same window twice.

Thx for this! When I drag the capture box to fit the entire area, I get pixelated crap (Steam VR). It shows a window when the game pops up that says "Press M to resize this window, but keep it small for best performance"-- if it's small, enlarging inside OBS looks like crap. If it's fullscreen, and I shrink the OBS box, it looks amazing. Should it be fullscreen? What if the gameplay suffers? I apologize for the noob question. Thx!
