Ok, really liked this. I taught climbing to kids at a YMCA back in 2000s. Our lead did this knot sometimes as an "overbuilt" knot when hooking the kids up quickly with just a locker, and not tieing them in with a figure 8 knot.

I always remembered how to tie it, never knew it had a real name. Looked for it to see if it was legit, never found anything. Glad you posted this!

This is a great technique. Thank you for explaining it so clearly!

Super cool! Would love to see a short of a few ways to utilize a static line after setting that up, (if you need video ideas). Love the content, thanks for sharing your knowledge!

Like the typical figure 8 follow-through, this can be tied around objects. Starting with a figure 8 fall-side of the anchor, pass around the first anchor-point, through the "top" of the 8 around the standing end and back through, then around the second anchor, follow-through as normal and finally dress carefully to ensure the bight is outside the 8 and the strain is balanced between anchors.

When tying, ensure the turns lie neatly next to one another. Strands crossing as they do bottom right of the 8 has been shown to significantly impact the breaking strain.

The knot is called 'bunny ears'

Awesome way to do it! I sometimes also use an alpine butterfly and a figure 8

I just learned to do it with the rope end, so i can save two more carabiners. Love your vids!

I heard that this knot is not recommended by UIAA because it can easily untie itself in case of destruction of a point.
In this case it converts to a single (or half-) “8” tied around a direct rope.

We call that bunny ears in rope access

I like the harness setup you have, what is it ?

Hey is there a visual safety check for this knot? Or a count-off like a figure of 8?

is that redundant though? it seems like if one loop is sheared, the other one will pull through.

I wonder if that would be as sufficient as a cow hitch knot, for applying a porter wrap at the base of a tree for tree work. Or a block in the canopy for the same purpose🤔 hmm

I like the super-8, we use it as a simple abseiling master point....

I would call that a Super8 but now that I write that, it’s probably trademark protected so double figure 8 it is.

That looks similar to a bowline on a bight, but with an extra loop

if you are going to use this knot learn to tie it properly, do not follow these instructions. you are giving dangerous advice.
