That's a good video - Nothing flashy, no stupid music/graphics, just straightforward into the facts. Well done.

Hello James. I just ran across this video. YES!!! I absolutely LOVE this format. Short sweet and to the point. No fluff. No filler. Just data... unlike a lot of other annoying youtubers! You just earned a subscriber! Thanks and please keep it up.

I had a feeling you wouldn't be able to. Thanks for clearing that up. I'll try to make do with what I have for my games.

I appreciate having the fact that I cannot replace my graphics card 😔 reinforced because the repair place that I took (it which happens to be where I bought it) told me that …but they also tried to charge me $250 to tighten the hinges and told me my LCD screen was coming apart from the back or top of the machine!! so they're trying to cheat me (I learned from YouTube videos) & I don't trust them.. so it was nice to find out that one particular thing they told me is true!!
& yes nice clear format

The answer is... *NO*
You Cannot Change your Notebook's GPU (Graphics Card).
You need to Change your Entire Motherboard in order to do this and the Process is Extremely hard.

Even if you do have any MxM card that can be removed, god help you when it comes to finding resellers. I don't understand why these aren't sold alongside regular graphics cards.

Thank you for explaining this so simply.

Basically, you’d have to replace the entire motherboard with the upgraded gpu on it and place it in the empty laptop

Thanks for getting straight to the point! I was wondering why you didn’t waste time then I saw the wheel in the back and the f1 drawing. That explained it

Update: Manufacturer Framework makes modular 13" and 16" laptops. The motherboards are swappable. Framework has laptops with Radeon RX 7700S (these might only be for the 16" versions) dGPU cards. This is of late July 2024.

In 2023, it's definitely not viable to change your graphics card, BUT in 5 years, I can honestly see laptops releasing new rigs where you can upgrade and change the gpu and laptop gpus are no longer soldered onto the laptop itself. Hell, in 5 years, I see enough laptop parts being so small that it'll have a lot more room to allow to upgrade and change parts around like desktops, finally ending the one issue gaming laptops have had for decades.

I guess that clearly answers my question. Was lead here as I looked of a way to upgrade my Nvidia Gforce GTS 950M graphics card. My whole laptop needs a bit of love. The yoga hinges are quite wobbly, need new battery, and would love to increase my OS hard drive from 0.5TB to at least 1TB. But since I can't include the graphics upgrade I might as well start searching for a new LT.
Thanks for the break down.
