The 1970's brought us some great food that's still popular today! I'm sharing 3 recipes today that originated in the 70s and I hope you'll try and make these for your families!

The author I mentioned is Mary Beth Whalen. I recently discovered her books!

0:00 Hey y'all

Note on General Tso's Chicken recipe: I didn't quite double the sauce, but I did do about 1.5 times the sauce. I also lessened the amount of sugar by about half.

Hi Mandy. This video brought tears to my eyes with the Watergate Salad. In my home it’s known as Pistachio Salad. I would make this every year for Thanksgiving, without the added nuts. My son who was 26yrs old, passed away in 2021 from Covid. He loved his mamas pistachio salad .That’s what he would ask for. This past Thanksgiving was one of the first times I was able to make it again as it was too hard to make without him being here. Well today has been a rough day, and I clicked on your video and it was like he was reminding me he was right here with me. Thank you for sharing this recipe.

I make Watergate salad for every family celebration and church potlucks. It’s always a winner and I head home with an empty bowl. EVERY single time!

Hey Mandy and Steven, I wanted to tell you that adding maraschino cherries are really good in the Watergate salad. It has been in my family for years and some people have put the whole container of cool whip in the bowl and letting it set for overnight makes it really thick and delicous. And if you make the pudding like the package directions, and drain the pineapple, makes it thick like pudding but better with all the ingredients. I love to watch ya'll and I'm glad you are making healthy recipes because I have heart disease and have to cook healthy. Take care.

Best husband award goes to Steven hands down. I was born in 1961 and I remember all the fabulous restaurants that were around in the 70s that were far superior to what we have today

Love the 70s! Graduated HS in 76! Can't beat the music - withstands the test of time! Dancing was crazy! 😁 Absolutely LOVE Watergate salad/Pistachio Salad. Great in the summer and the holidays! Geez, now I want some! Lol

My grandma called it 'pistachio delight'. (my favorite)
She would "jazz it up" occasionally with some coconut and / or maraschino cherries sliced up. Just to make it more festive. ❤😊❤❤

Thank you. My grandmother had Waldorf or Ambrosia for every Sunday Dinner after church. The whole family was there.

I’m a 60’s baby so I grew up with 70’s recipes! My Mom was a pretty good cook. I’ve saved a few of her handwritten recipes and I’m going to display them in a shadow box along with some of her cooking utensils. She got her angel wings in 2017.
Thanks for sharing the recipes! ❤❤

Watergate salad was a staple in every church dinner I ever attended as a young adult! I'm gonna have to give that a go sometime very soon....ahhhh, memories!

I graduated in 1974 so the 70's was a favorite time of mine. Watergate salad was served Thanksgiving and/or Christmas and I still make it today. We always added chopped maraschino cherries to it. Makes it really colorful.
