Tohatsu 6hp outboard first time in the water

I used to have the Honda BF2.3 but I needed something faster so I purchased this Tohatsu 6hp. It has plenty of power for just one person but it gets a little bogged down with 2 people and some gear. I eventually found out that I could swap the standard prop 7.8x8 to a 7.8x7 and this helped me get into plane faster and also get into plane when someone is with me. Below you will find a few brands of props for this outboard.

First time on a lake and it started after second pull, very smooth idle too. Japanese quality.

Do you know why the manual advises you to remove the top cowl when refilling the integral tank ? Seems kind of unecessary unless it has to do with safety.

So you say if you shift weight forward you can achieve plane ? I have a tiller extension i never use it l may have to give it a try to push my weight forward...I have a lot of extra ballast after lockdown ha ha 😂. Loving your videos .

Nice! I am getting the 15 feet Saturn boat with a 10 or 15 hp motor; for fishing, 2 adults. Let's see how fast you can go when motor is ready to run full throttle. Where did you get those blue mirror sunglasses?

Thanks for the footage Erick. Hoping to go and buy a new Tohatsu 6hp tomorrow along with a 3.5m (11.5ft) inflatable with air deck here in the UK. It was good to see the outboard will plane with a 3.8m boat.

Buying so that I can fly my Mavic Air 2 from the boat - do you hand launch/catch your drone from the boat or take off from dry land?

Hi Erick Thanks for your helpful video's. So we took our new Saturn (heavy duty 12 feet) out for her "maiden voyage " today and loved it. Its a bit heavy but sturdy it seems. Now we bought .what should be, a 4 HP leadallway motor....we were quite disappointed. We only got to 5 miles on the Caloosahatchie river. We are not speed demons ha ha but want to go with our saturn to the barrier islands here on the we are considering upgrading to the Tohatsu 6 HP. Your video in 2 years old so do you still like the Tohatsu? Thanks again .
