End of Russia-Ukraine gas deal: Will Germany fall back on Russian gas after the election? | DW News

The European Union says gas supplies are stable after deliveries of Russian gas via Ukraine ended on New Year's Day. Russian gas accounted for less than 10 percent of the European Union's gas imports in 2023, but some eastern members – including Slovakia and Hungary – were still heavily relying on them.

Just outside of the EU, the effects of the gas cuts were immediately felt in Moldova and especially its Russian-backed breakaway region of Transnistria, where heating and hot water supplies to households were cut off. Ukraine stopped the transit after a decade-long contract with Moscow expired. Kyiv said not renewing the deal was in the interests of national security, and a way to hurt Russia's economy.

So according to him there is no problem Europe to buy expensive gas and the users to pay more. Also he cant see how the European economy is in a mess.
In what planet he lives.

One American talking to another American about the interests of other countries. Their answer of course is to do the things that benefit America.

A US specialist explaining, why it is so good for the EU to cut itself off from Russian gas, so the US can sell LNG to the EU 3 to 4 times more expensive. The US who gave the green light for the destruction of the Nord Stream pipeline. Economically, good for the US and disastrous for EU citizens and industries. Can DW invite an EU expert who is not corrupt and tells the truth.

when asked about Ukranians being hurt from possible Slovakia shutting off electricity of course he says "I dont think so" from the comfort of a cozy heated place in Pennsylvania thousand of kms away from Ukraine...thats is the problem with analysts and commentators they live in their bubble

Majority of people in Slovakia lives in flats that are heated and provided with warm water from gas boilers.
Also industry uses mostly gas for heating processes.
We can buy Russian gas from Turkey but the route is longer thus will cost more which results only in less money for people and higher prices for industry- means losing in trade. Same happens in Germany after Nord Stream

Of course gas supply to the EU is secured. At higher prices of course. MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN... AND RICHER! ...

1:39 He paints them as pro Russian, but they are actually against stupidity. Europe has cut itself from the mega country of commodities and natural resources. Now Europe suffers artificial inflation. The poor countries suffer the most.

As long as cheap gas flowed through a pipeline along the bottom of the Baltic Sea from Russia to Germany, it was ecological. When the Nord Stream 1 and 2 pipelines exploded, the gas stopped being ecological. Now, only German electric cars, windmills, heat pumps and Chinese photovoltaic panels are ecological.

A reminder that Germany had all the energy it could ever dream of from nuclear but after the fukashima scare in 2011 tsunami, your government had them all demolished.

Is Russia requesting EU to buy its gas, of course not. Russia is selling Gas to other countries and in future Russia may not supply Gas to EU.
Let EU economies go down.
